Martha Jane (Ontko) Reino, 75, passed away on June 9, 2017 in Fort Worth, Texas. She was born on February 7, 1942 in Marblehead, Ohio to Stephen and Mary Ontko.
Martha grew up in Marblehead, Ohio as the youngest of 6 sisters and 6 brothers. She was known as "Marty" to all of her classmates and graduated from Lakeside High School in 1960. Despite moving away from Marblehead shortly after starting her family, she returned for almost every class reunion and cherished the friendships she maintained with many of her classmates.
Martha married Carmine Reino in 1961 in Marblehead, Ohio and recently celebrated their 56th anniversary. She met Carmine at a dance hall at Gem Beach on Catawba Island while she was still in high school. It was love at first sight. They wrote love letters to each other while he served in the Navy and she has kept them all these years. They moved to Texas in 1965 and continued growing their family of five children. Martha worked side-by-side with Carmine as owners of Reino Cleaners in Arlington and Grand Prairie for 36 years before retiring in 2002. She was involved in the local ABWA. Martha was the consummate care-giver; always putting others needs before her own. As with any large family, food was a big part of any gathering. And although she was not Italian, she mastered many great Italian recipes. Many people may remember her lasagna and her family's traditional Slovakian nut roll.
Over the years, Martha and her family were members of St. Matthew's in Arlington, Immaculate Conception in Grand Prairie and Holy Family of Nazareth in Irving. She enjoyed swimming, walking, visiting with neighbors, caring for her grandchildren, visiting family in Ohio and vacationing in Florida. She remained healthy and active, never stopped moving and made many new friends at the Hugh Smith Recreation Center in Arlington where she enjoyed water aerobics. Her selflessness and caring were an inspiration and she leaves us rich with many memories. We are forever grateful to have experienced her immense love.
Martha is survived by her husband Carmine of Grand Prairie; her sons and daughters, Thomas Reino of Grand Prairie, Matthew Reino and his wife Erika of Lewisville, Mary Brown and her husband Cameron of Cedar Park, Texas, Leigh Ann Romack and her husband Mark of Dallas, and Nancy Reino of Bend, Oregon. Also by her loving brothers and sisters, Mary Pepa of Lakeside, Ohio, Bernadette Weldon and Don & Greta Gresh, of Port Clinton, OH, Alice Wingate of Kokomo, IN and Chuck and Marcia Ontko of Port Clinton. Brother-in-law, Tom Martin, of Catawba, OH. And by her grandchildren, Ian and Catherine Brown, Sarah and Matthew Romack and Anna Reino. Also by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Martha was preceded in death by her two brothers James "Jimmy" Ontko and Raymond "Sonny" Ontko, and two sisters Agnes Ontko and Mildred Martin.
We thank the highly-skilled and dedicated nurses, doctors and staff in the Neuro ICU at Plaza Medical City in Forth Worth for their care of Martha and compassion toward our family.
