SULPHUR-Martha "Marty" Ellen Wright Coe Ableson, 81, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013, in the Golden Age Nursing Home in Welsh. She was a native of Ponca City, Oklahoma, born on July 27, 1931.
Marty spent her early years in Benton Harbor, Michigan, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She attended Milwaukee Downer College (now Lawrence University), where she received a B.A. in Music Education. She moved to Louisiana around 1952 where she met and married the love of her life, Leo Coe. Marty earned her Masters Degree in Music Education from McNeese State University. She taught Chorus for many years at W.W. Lewis Middle School in Sulphur, and throughout her career her students earned many Superior ratings in their performances. She was very talented and enjoyed sharing her love of music with all those she knew, as well as serving as an Organist and Choir Director at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. She will always be remembered by her students, church family, and friends for her outgoing and cheerful nature, and her many acts of kindness and devotion.
She is survived by her daughter Mary Coe Burke and husband Samuel, and her three grandchildren, Lauren, Sami, and Timothy, all of Sulphur.
She is preceded in death by her sister, JoAnn Ellefson; parents Joe and Pauline Wright; and husbands Leo E. Coe and Paul M. Ableson.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, January 4, in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Sulphur. The Rev. James Benbrook will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until time of service Friday at the church. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.
Donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Memorial Fund.

"Mrs. Coe taught me music and chorale singing for the three years that I attended WW Lewis Jr. High School. I know that she had no idea the profound effect..." Rob Wilkinson (Santa Barbara, CA)
