Martha Bolick Dixon Hatch, 69, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 12, 2014 surrounded by her family. She was born May 31, 1944 to Charles Roy and Cletus Dixon. Martha graduated from Sanford Central High School and graduated from the Women's College of Greensboro. She married her high school sweetheart, Charlie Hatch on June 16, 1963 and they were blessed to celebrate their 50th anniversary this past June surrounded by friends and family. Together, they made a life time of memories touching lives and reaching out to others.

The primary work and joy of her life was raising her two daughters and later enjoying the love of her six granddaughters.

First United Methodist Church of Cary was the foundation of her strong faith for over 40 years and very important in her life. She taught kindergarten at the church preschool for years and later was employed as the church's financial secretary. Martha gave of her talents in many ways. She most enjoyed sharing her love of music by singing in the FUMC chancel choir, the Chapel Singer Choir and playing in the hand bell choir. She loved the fellowship of her beloved Rebecca Circle group. Martha was awarded a life membership by the United Methodist Women. She participated in many Bible studies through the years and was still active in the Sharing Table Bible Study group which brought her so much joy. She was also active in the Stephen Ministry at her church.

During her daughters' youth, she and Charlie were active in the United Methodist Youth Program, serving as leaders and mentors to many. Martha enjoyed her summer mission trips with the youth groups to repair homes with the Appalachian Service Project organization. More recently, Martha enjoyed giving of herself by knitting prayer shawls for others through the church.

Martha worked side by side with her husband, Charlie during his Rotary Club obligations. She was a Paul Harris Fellow as well as an honorary member of the Cary Kildaire Rotary Club.

Martha made a life time of giving to others. Her radiant smile and warm hugs made a difference in so many lives. She was a constant source of support and encouragement to her husband, daughters, and granddaughters. May her love of life and her joy in giving as well as her Christian dedication live on in the hearts of those that loved her.

Martha is survived by her beloved husband, of 50 years, Charlie Hatch, as well as two daughters: Marti Hatch (Michael Binger) of Gastonia and Mollie Hatch Moore (James Moore)of Kernersville, NC. Her precious granddaughters brought her so much joy. Her last 21 years were spent enjoying the granddaughters' activities and supporting them in all their ventures. Etta Grace, Marcie, Amanda Palmer, Maggie, Charlie Elizabeth and Gracie will miss her more than words can say. Martha is also survived by her dear sisters, Billie Jernigan of Sanford and Judy Cutts of Raleigh. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother, Charles Dixon.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 11:00am at First United Methodist Church in Cary. A reception will immediately follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church Music Program.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of The Lord forever. Psalm 23:6
