Marvin Buntrock Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 27, 2013.

Buntrock, Marvin F. passed away on July 26, 2013 after a long illness surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born in Detroit, MI on July 8, 1937 to Mr. Marvin O. and Mrs. Ila Buntrock. After the death of his father in 1948, he moved to Ft. Pierce, FL with his mother and brothers, Richard and Robert. In 1954 he relocated to Ft. Lauderdale, FL where his family opened Midas Muffler franchises throughout Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Marvin graduated from Ft. Lauderdale High School in 1954. He attended the University of Florida, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. After completing his tour of duty in the United States Coast Guard, Marvin returned home. He became an owner and general manager of the family business; thus becoming elected as a director of the National Midas Dealers Association. He was a devout member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, serving on the Church Council for many years. Marvin was very active in community organizations: the Ft. Lauderdale and Pompano Beach Chambers of Commerce, the Cooperative Feeding Program of Broward County, and the Pompano Beach Exchange Club. He was a founding member of the Sample-McDougald House Preservation Society and served as a longtime member of the Board of Directors. While active in the local Republican Party, he became a delegate to the State Presidential Convention. He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Betsy McDougald Buntrock; his loving son, Bryan; his brother, Richard L. Buntrock of West Palm Beach, FL and many nieces and nephews. Marvin was predeceased by his parents and brother, Robert. Family and friends will always remember Marvin's kindness, compassion and generosity. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 31 from 11-12pm with a 12:00pm funeral service at Kraeer Funeral Home, 200 N. Federal Hwy., Pompano Beach, FL 33062.. Interment will follow at the Pompano Beach Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 11 SW 11th Street, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33315 and the Sample-McDougald House Preservation Society (Special Fund), P.O. Box 1599, Pompano Beach, FL 33061.

To Betsy and the Buntrock Family,
I am sad to hear of Marvin's passing, but I am also so very blessed to have known him for the past ten or so years through the Exchange Club of Pompano Beach. Marvin was always one of the faces that I looked forward to seeing on Wednesdays from the Flaming Pit to the LPYRC where we have our meetings.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful man with us and thank you for all that you both have done for our community. The Sample-McDougald House has been supported by the club because of Marvin's hard work and advocacy.
May God bless your family and our friend Marvin.

It's really hard for me to say goodbye, after all the good and meaningful times we have had over the years., From skiing in Colorado, to bird shooting in the Bahamas, Marv was always ready to go, ready to give it a try.

You've had a hard time for the past year old friend, and I'll miss you. Goodbye for now.
