Mary Woodward Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 8, 2017.

Mary Woodward, our beloved mother passed away Wednesday September 6th, 2017. The love of her life and husband for 67 years, William, passed away in 2013. She leaves behind her youngest daughter Karen Tando and husband Michael Tando and her eldest daughter Lynne Woodward; her grandson Captain Kevin Lienesch and wife Julia; her granddaughter Courtney Reed and husband Ryan: her two great granddaughters.

Mary was born Mary Beverly Conner in Willoughby, Ohio on October 6, 1924. She always preferred Mary Catherine Conner because it sounded more Irish. Her father, Lawrence Conner, trained horses on the east coast, and Mary traveled with her mother following her Dad’s circuit. She had many fond memories of her time as a small child living on the block near the race track where she was free to visit all the store keepers each day on her rounds. Mary also lived with her dear Aunt Helen and Uncle Spotty who traveled to many parts of the country during her school years, eventually bringing her to Noblesville, Indiana where Dad grew up. Dad saw Mary while she was in high school and whistled at her when she came to get ice cream, much to her consternation! Dad signed up for the Army Air Corp in 1942 and a year later arranged to meet Mary on a blind date through one of his cousins. They were married after the war in May, 1946.

Mary loved her life traveling with Dad who was in the United States Air Force. She lived all over the States and traveled places like Okinawa and Australia, relishing all the experiences and stories we shared as a family. Mom always created wonderful homes for us no matter where we lived. Every holiday or birthday was an excuse for a celebratory party or dinner with decorations and delicious food. During her life she was a wife, mother, art gallery owner and successful real estate agent, to list only a few of her pursuits. Mom was our fearless protector, our creative guide, our humorist and our model of generosity. She was our loving mother who thought most of all, until her dying breath, about the happiness of her family.

The family will have a private burial at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Mary asked that in lieu of flowers, you donate to your favorite charity.
