Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Bergman, (nee Murray), 89, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the Lorien Assisted Living residences, in Bel Air, Maryland. A life-long resident of East Stroudsburg, she had been living in Maryland for the past 16 months to be near her daughters and grandchildren.

Born in Houtzdale, PA, on December 13, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Mr. James and Ellen (Shannon) Murray. Betty moved to East Stroudsburg as a teenager and graduated from East Stroudsburg High School. She married her high school sweetheart, John E. She later worked at Line Material Industries., where she met her loving husband of 59 years, Harvey V. (Hotsy) Bergman, who preceded her in death on January 20, 2007. Betty also worked as an "Avon Lady" and in later years was a waitress at the Penn Stroud Hotel.

In retirement, she and Hotsy loved to travel and spend time with their grandchildren. Betty enjoyed entertaining and playing cards. Bingo was one of her favorite pastimes, along with playing her favorite lottery numbers and scratch offs. She was a people person and was loved by all.

Betty was an active member of St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church, East Stroudsburg, where she served on the Altar and Rosary Society.

Betty is survived by her children, Craig H. Bergman and wife, Phyllis, of East Stroudsburg; Bonnie B. Hardy and husband, Paul, of Bel Air, Maryland; Debra Bergman-Haywood of Bel Air, Maryland; six grandchildren, Brad Bergman and wife, Kim, of Stroudsburg; Christina Masucci and husband, Michael, of East Stroudsburg; Norman Hardy and wife, Jacqueline, of Baltimore, Maryland; Steven Hardy, of Bel Air, Maryland; Nash Haywood and wife, Danielle, of San Diego, California; and Kelsey Ann Haywood, of Bel Air, Maryland; seven great grandchildren, and her beloved cousin, Lillian Bergman of Stroudsburg.
