Thomasville Dateline Mrs. Mary Jane Brooks Cody, 67, a resident of Thomasville, passed away Monday, August 11, 2014 at her home. Mrs. Cody was born on April 6, 1947 in Gaston County and was of the Baptist faith. On August 27, 1977, she married Robert Henry "Bob" Cody. She had worked for many years as an interior decorator in Gastonia. Together, her and Bob moved to Thomasville and founded Cato Transportation, which they operated for over thirty years. Mrs. Mary Jane Brooks Cody, 67, a resident of Thomasville, passed away Monday, August 11, 2014 at her home.
Mrs. Cody was born on April 6, 1947 in Gaston County and was of the Baptist faith. On August 27, 1977, she married Robert Henry "Bob" Cody. She had worked for many years as an interior decorator in Gastonia. Together, her and Bob moved to Thomasville and founded Cato Transportation, which they operated for over thirty years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cody was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Brooks.
Surviving is her husband of over 36 years, Bob Cody of the home; her daughter, Melissa Kay Duncan of Bessemer City; and grandson, Travis Duncan. Also surviving are two sisters, Ruth Ann Sisk and Betty Owens, both of Gastonia; and two brothers, Gary and Marvin Brooks, both of Gastonia.
A celebration of Mrs. Cody's life will be held at 6:30 pm Wednesday, August 13th in the chapel of Thomasville Funeral Home with her brother-in-law, Harvey Lee Cody officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 6:30 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. A private entombment service will be held at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.
