Funeral Service for Mary Lou Bailey, 90, of Lubbock, will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday January 17 at Bacon Heights Baptist Church in Lubbock. Family visitation will be Wednesday, January 16th from 4 to 7 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. She was born on February 16, 1922 in Dalhart to Owen and Margaret Burnett. She married Joe Weldon Bailey on June 1, 1939. He preceded her death in 1988. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Mary Jo. Mary Lou cleaned her piano teacher's house so that she could take piano lessons. She played saxophone and piano...
Funeral Service for Mary Lou Bailey, 90, of Lubbock, will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday January 17 at Bacon Heights Baptist Church in Lubbock. She was born on February 16, 1922 in Dalhart to Owen and Margaret Burnett.

She married Joe Weldon Bailey on June 1, 1939. He preceded her death in 1988. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Mary Jo.
Mary Lou cleaned her piano teacher's house so that she could take piano lessons. She played saxophone and piano with the West Texas State college band as a high school student. Mary Lou received a Bachelor of Science and was also a charter member of the South Bay writing project at Texas Tech.
Mary Lou and Joe taught in the following communities: Quitaque, Kelton, Spade, and Lubbock. She taught for 35 years when she retired in 1990. Upon retiring, she entered into full time service to her Lord and Savior. She traveled on numerous mission trips to Africa, Ukraine, Germany, and Mexico. She loved to go to the Dallas Training Center to do laundry for a 6th floor training facility under Bill Gothard Basic Youth Conflicts.

Mary Lou loved crocheting beautiful baby blankets to be used at baby dedications at Bacon Heights. She loved working with children in the nursery. One of her very favorite hobbies was playing 42 on Thursday morning at the church. She was a very competitive opponent! She learned to play Bridge when she was 90. Mary Lou has been blessed with living a life of service to others. Her last 2 years were spent at Emeritus at Elmbrook Estates where she ministered to her many friends and family. We will all miss Mary Lou bright smile and encouraging words but, Sunday night she graduated into God's kingdom.

She is survived by her son J. W Bailey of Levelland and two daughters Kathy Bailey of Lubbock and Sylvia Ingrim of Irving. Six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Donations may be made to the Bacon Heights Baptist Church. 5110 54th St. Lubbock, TX 79414.
