Mary Haney Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2017.

Mary Louise (Pentecost) Haney passed to her Heavenly home on August 6, 2017, at 8:37 a.m. in Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.

Louise was born March 1, 1923, to Joseph Emanuel Pentecost and Mary Ethel (Morris) Pentecost. She had an identical twin sister, Martha Lucille (Pentecost) Williams.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 66 years, Robert B. (RB) Haney; sisters, Wandelle Fender and Lucille Williams; son, Ray Haney; daughter-in-law, Cindy Haney; grandson-in-law, Gary Giddens; and two infant grandchildren, Angel Courtney and Bryan Haney.

She married R.B. on May 6, 1941, and they raised three children: Bill Haney, Ludie Haney Courtney, and Ray Haney. They were owners of Community Grocery in Nacogdoches and retired to their farm in Appleby.

She is survived by her children, Bill Haney and wife Wanda of Appleby; and Ludie Courtney and husband Leon of Longview.

She is also survived by her six grandchildren (her pride and joy), Robbie Courtney of Fort Worth, Dena Giddens of Appleby, Keith Haney of Longview, Wynde Morgan of New Caney, Jeff Haney of Lufkin, and Amy Soto of Huffman. These treasures surrounded her on her passing. Not only did she have 6 grandchildren that adored her, but also her 16 great-grandchildren "rise and call her blessed."

Her surviving siblings include Laverne Mercer, Morris Pentecost, Jack Pentecost, Maury Pentecost, and Maurice Pentecost.

She was a member of Eastern Star in Nacogdoches and Bethel Baptist Church in Appleby. She enjoyed crocheting, painting, and playing bridge. It was her pleasure to gift her family and friends with one of crocheted pieces or a painting of hers.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Bethel Baptist Church in Appleby. Brother Steve Ewton will officiate and a reception will follow in the fellowship hall. Private interment will be at Bethel Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Robbie Courtney, Keith Haney, Jeff Haney, Jesse Soto, John Morgan, Jake Morgan, William Giddens, and Drew Tarver. Honorary pallbearers are Dustin Morgan, Josh Morgan, Luke Courtney, Eric Morgan and Michael Morgan.

Mrs. Haney will be available for viewing from 1-5 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Cason Monk-Metcalf.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 429 Happy Land Road, Nacogdoches, TX 75965.

Ludie, I am so sorry for your loss. Our hearts hurt so bad as we loose our loved ones...,but loosing our mom is so difficult. Our mom has always been there for us. Our faith comes into play to help us let God have them. You have a very strong faith and a husband to hold your hand. My prayer is for God to surround you and your family with His love and peace and send angels to take care of you. I love you sweet friend. I am here if I can be of any service to you just let me know.

We were not blessed to have known Mrs.Haney. We do know Bill and Wanda and their children and what a blessing they have been to us for all the years we have known them. She apparently was a wonderful Christian lady who loved her God and family. May God comfort and bless you as only He can do. Sincerely, Neal and Clara Murphy

Not only was Mrs. Haney a sister in Christ and fellow church member, but I thought of her as a "second mother" after my own mother passed. She was my mentor, my check and balance system, and my FRIEND. Jerome and I will never forget her wisdom, sweet love, and witty personality. Oh, that we may walk in her Godly example.
