Mary Virginia Lowry of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully on August 6, 2012 at the age of 80, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease. Ginny was born on October 9, 1931 to the late TG and Velma Bell of Tyler, Texas. She met the love of her life, Bob Lowry, in college, and they were married in 1949. Together, they raised four children, Richard, Stephen, Timothy, and Mary Ellen. After moving to North Carolina in 1970 with Bob, she returned to school and completed her English Degree at NC State University in 1973.
Ginny was a retired English teacher in the Wake County Public School System, having taught at both Zebulon High School and Athens Drive High School. She loved teaching and, more importantly, loved her students. She and Bob particularly loved their time at Zebulon High School, where they were actively involved in the school, the community, and the lives of her students.
Ginny and Bob were married for 62 years until his death in 2011. Their lives together were centered in their faith and love of the Lord, both being lifelong and active members of the church of Christ. Ginny and Bob were inseparable, and, in addition to their church activities, loved to travel and attend concerts together. His death in 2011 created a hole for her that could not be filled.
Ginny is survived by her sons Richard A. Lowry and partner Lee Ann Eischen, Stephen D. Lowry and wife Denise T. Lowry, and Timothy G. Lowry and wife Deborah Lowry, daughter Mary Ellen Lowry, and foster son and former student, Johnny Logan Daniels and wife Wonda Daniels. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Ginny will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. A memorial service celebrating Ginny's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2012, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on Millbrook Road. Visitation will be held at Brown-Wynne on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Raleigh church of Christ, 911 Barringer Drive, Raleigh, NC 27606.
