ACOSTA, MARY FRANCES January 27, 1920 – November 18, 2013 Mary Frances Acosta, 93, of Littleton, CO, passed away November 18, 2013. She was born in Michoacan, Mexico to Jesus and Manuela Cansino. Her father was a talented musician and railroad worker, her mother was a dedicated homemaker. Mary was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Manuel Jesus Acosta; her brother, Joseph A. Cansino; and her parents. She grew up in several small towns between Pueblo and Castle Rock. She attended Douglas County schools. Mary Frances Acosta, 93, of Littleton, CO, passed away November 18, 2013. She was born in Michoacan, Mexico to Jesus and Manuela Cansino. Her father was a talented musician and railroad worker, her mother was a dedicated homemaker. Mary was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Manuel Jesus Acosta; her brother, Joseph A. Cansino; and her parents. She grew up in several small towns between Pueblo and Castle Rock. She attended Douglas County schools. Mary and her husband Manuel settled in Littleton in 1939 and live there the rest of their lives. During World War II, she supported the war effort as a mortar munitions inspector at the Heckethorn Manufacturing Company located in downtown Littleton. She also worked at the Martin-Marietta plant in Waterton making rockets and bomb shells. Later in life she worked at Blue Cross & Blue Shield Insurance in Denver as a senior claims adjustor, retiring in 1985. Mary enjoyed learning about different countries and cultures, especially visiting her family in Panama. She regularly visited and supported the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (formerly Denver Museum of Natural History) and traveled vicariously by attending the weekly travelogues at Phipps Auditorium. She loved watering her large lawn and flowers during the summer and enjoyed meeting new people and talking for hours. Mary devoted her life to her family. Later in life Mary was particularly thankful to the TMC Meals on Wheels for their tasty meals and kind visits, and to her daughter-in-law, Gisela, who lovingly spent many months visiting and caring for her. She is survived by her six children, Manuel, Esther, Arthur, Cristina, Teri and Daniel, 16 grandchildren (Anna, John, Michael Coffey, Teresa, Karen, Robert, Michael Acosta, Phillip, Marty, Anthony, Mark, Stefanie, Dana, Jenifer, Eric and Patrick); numerous great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and siblings, Josephine Seigel, Charles Cansino, Louis Cansino, Sarah Peterson and David Cansino. A funeral mass will be will be held on Tuesday, November 26, at 11AM (10AM viewing) at Saint Mary Catholic Church, 6853 S. Prince Street, Littleton, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be sent to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, 2001 Colorado Blvd., Denver, CO 80205, 303-370-6000, www.dmns.org.
