Mary Eileen (Weigel) Anderson was born on May 25, 1920 to Michael and Mary (Fitzgerald) Weigel in Chickasaw County. She graduated from New Hampton High School in 1937 and also attended Luther College. Mary taught country school for many years in the rural New Hampton area and continued to stay in touch with several of her former students. She enjoyed baking, dancing, music, reading, crossword puzzles and writing letters. She especially loved spending time with her family, attending plays, family dinners and concerts. Mary also enjoyed activities such as playing Bingo, attending potlucks and socializing with her friends.

On June 19, 1952 Mary was united in marriage to Oliver Anderson. They were later divorced, but to this union three children were born. Mary is survived by her three children: Don (Debbie) Anderson of Boone; Darlys (Larry) Allen of Tustin, Ca.; Deanna Anderson of Lake View Terrace, Ca.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister Genevieve Steege; one sister-in-law Delores Weigel and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters: Alvetta Laures, Rita Throndson and Catherine (in infancy); and 3 brothers: Harold, Joe and Gerald Weigel.

We await the day we can be reunited with her in heaven as she is now reunited with family and friends who have passed before her…

I am so sorry to hear about your mom Darlys. I remember when we were small how she always watched out for us playing. She will be greatly missed. I await the day I will get to see her in heaven and give her a big hug. The family is most definitely in my thoughts and prayers at this time as always. I remember so much of my young childhood with her as a big part of it. Welcome home to heaven Eileen, you are certainly loved and treasured by many more than you could have ever known.

I discovered a photo of Eileen standing by a large display of Christmas cards and it seemed a definitive thing about her. Don said that every day she wrote at least one letter, She loved keeping in contact with her family and friends. Many of the family and friends mentioned that she never forgot their birthdays and always wrote a personal note to them in her Christmas cards. The priest spoke on Isaiah 44 where the Bible states God's word will not return to Him void, without accomplishing what He sent it out to do. In the sermon he stated that Eileen was a person of words and accomplished her connection with family and friends. She was loved by so many people and enjoyed counting the cards people sent to her on special occasions. It's lovely to have those tangible reminders of her.
