Mary Ruth Houchin was born on September 15, 1932 in Cass County, Iowa, just south of the town of Anita, the daughter of Bernard and Mary Elizabeth (Anderson) Houchin. Mary married Ornell Hugh Asleson on May 9, 1964 in Anita and they had two daughters. She and her husband lived in Omaha, Nebraska for 42 years where they were members of Morning Star Lutheran Church. They moved to Overland Park, Kansas six years ago.

Mary loved scrapbooking and dancing. Her greatest love was spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She and Hugh loved traveling and visiting friends and family. They also spent their winter months in South Texas.

Mary was always positive and had kind words for everyone. She had a servant's heart who loved to quietly and anonymously serve wherever she was needed. She was deeply loved by her family and many friends and is going to be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Ornell Hugh Asleson of Overland Park, KS; two children: Catherine Dundon and husband, John, of Englewood, CO, and Joni Casey and husband, Craig, of Overland Park, KS; four grandchildren: Hank and Amelia Dundon and Colin and Nicole Casey; brother: James Houchin, and wife, Betty, of Casa Grande, AZ; numerous nieces, nephews, cousin and other relatives.
