Mary "Ruth" Avakian, age 85, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, of Clovis passed away Friday, January 3, 2014, surrounded by her family.

Ruth was predeceased by husband, Milton Avakian; mother and father, Martha and John Fike; and brother John Fike.

Ruth was a loving mom to Connie Clifton and husband Steve, Cynthia Avakian and partner Janice Higashi, Douglas Avakian and wife Cathy, and Susan Avakian. She was a loving grandmother to Kevin Clifton, Kelly Osterman and husband Jeffrey, Christy Thomason and husband Wynn, Michael Taylor Zalenski, Lauren Thompson and Natalie Thompson; and loving great-grandmother to Kayla and Carlie Thomason. She is also survived by many devoted nieces and nephews, and numerous adoring friends.

Ruth was a lifelong resident of Fresno and Clovis, California. She attended Jefferson Elementary, Longfellow Jr. High, Roosevelt High School, and Fresno State College. She worked for Fresno County for twenty years before retiring.

Ruth was an avid reader, shopper, slot machine winner, and loved spending time with her loyal four-legged companion Mitsy. She was also a volunteer at the gift shop in St. Agnes Medical Center and participated in various other charities.

We all agree she was an angel sent from heaven to her family, and especially to Milt who we know greeted her with open arms.

Her approach to life and positive attitude is a lesson that all who knew her will cherish. She will be dearly missed by her family and numerous loving friends.

Visitation will be held at Stephens & Bean Chapel on Friday, January 10, 2014, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
A Service to be held at Stephens and Bean Chapel, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Daughters of the Nile 2350 W. Shaw Ave., Suite 101, Fresno, CA 93711; or your favorite charity.
