Mary Alice (Root) (Bain) Bales, 97, of Olathe, Kansas passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, March 3, 2014. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to everyone she met. Mary was born on August 27, 1916, in Olathe, Kansas to Henry and Maude B. (Duffield) Root. It gave her much pleasure to work as a registered nurse in the medical field. Nothing gave her more pleasure in life than to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She will be sadly missed. Mary is preceded in death by her parents; loving husbands R.H. Mary Alice (Root) (Bain) Bales, 97, of Olathe, Kansas passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, March 3, 2014. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to everyone she met.

Mary was born on August 27, 1916, in Olathe, Kansas to Henry and Maude B. (Duffield) Root. It gave her much pleasure to work as a registered nurse in the medical field. Nothing gave her more pleasure in life than to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She will be sadly missed.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; loving husbands R.H. Bain and Wilbert Bales; daughter Marilyn L. Bain; and grandson Timothy M. Wallington. Survivors include her children: R. Ann Wallington of Gaithersburg, Maryland; Cheryl B. Verner and her husband Robert of Nacogdoches, Texas; Linda B. Sutton and her husband Douglas of Paola, Kansas; Kat J. Kitano of Nacogdoches, Texas; and Richard H. Bain of Tucson, Arizona. Left behind to cherish her memory are her seven grandchildren: C.J. Wallington and his wife Lesley; Christopher B. Wallington and his wife Chris; Robert Wallington and his wife Paige; Kelly W. Asher and her husband Gary, David Wallington and his wife Christie; Marc T. Kitano and his wife Carol; and Stacey A. Enriquez and her husband Francis.

Mary was cremated according to her wishes. A private family memorial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Good Samaritan Society of Olathe, Kansas, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
