Mary Ball Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 26, 2013.

But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength:
They shall mount up with wings like eagles;
They shall run and not be weary;
They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:30
(Kingsport) Mary Crawford Ball, 88, passed away Wednesday morning (September 25, 2013) at Indian Path hospital, after a long struggle with serious illness. Her children and grandchildren were gathered at her bedside when her Heavenly Father took her home so peacefully. God is Good. Mary Minnie was born November 9, 1924 in Mill Creek, Sullivan County, and named for her two Grandmas, Minnie Nelms and Mary Crawford. She grew up in the Depew's Chapel community of Long Hollow, helping her father cut timber on Bays Mountain; then alongside her husband for many years farming tobacco. Mary Minnie was a sweet, loving Mother, Sister and Grandmother; well loved for her laughter and humor, she loved singing gospel quartet and Bill Monroe bluegrass songs; well known for her love of hard work; gardening, yard work, and cleaning house for many families in Kingsport; well remembered for her country cooking, especially her homemade biscuits and cornbread. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Clifford Ball; parents, John and Pearl Crawford; and Sister, Clara Lee Crawford. Surviving are her three children, Marie (Robert) Wolfe, Betty Debord, and Charles (Becki )Ball; five grandchildren, Gale (Steve) Pierson, Karen (Tim) Ruskey, April (Chad) Shaffer, Matthew Ball, and Kelly Ball; six great-grandchildren, Darby, Jacob, Danielle, Aaron, Will and Noah; three great-great grandchildren, Nicole, Kegan and Nevaeh; four sisters, Gladys Duncan, Trula Waycaster, Geraldine Scalf, Joyce (Fred) McMurray; two brothers, Harold (Bess) Crawford and Gene (Carolyn) Crawford; many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Andy Delwadia, Dr. Bendeck, Chaplin Ron Lowe, and Nursing Staff at Indian Path Hospital for their care and kindness. Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 at East Lawn Memorial Park. I am so sorry for your loss. I know only too well what its like when we have to
say goodbye to those that have always been there for us. May God bless and comfort each of you. Mary Minnie was always my favorite Aunt, we had a very special relationship when I was growing up. I wasn't able to visit her very often,
but she was always in my heart. Rest in peace dear friend.

Mamaw, you will always be my best friend. You are healed and have a new body! No more arthritis, no more Parkinson's. I can hear you talking so plainly again with your new young voice: "Well, they heavenly day!" I know you are out climbing hills again with your new young legs, up to the highest pasture field.

You can once again ride your horse, "Topsy" down to the store for your Mommy Pearl. And take the milk cows down to graze by the creek for your Daddy. I still have your cow bell they used to wear.

I know you are reunited with Earl and Alice and Clara Lee who all went to heaven so young. I know you are just getting to know Clarence and your granny Minnie Presley, who you never got to meet on earth.

I know you're with your pipe-smoking granny Mary Short who lived to age 88, just like you did. I bet you and her had a good laugh about that. I hope you're with your best girl friend, "Toots" again and both up to some mischief.

Pet Missy, Brandy and Mr. Fullen's hound dogs for me. Say hello to Papaw Clifford, Blanche and Ruby, Edith Good, Mamie Whaley, Mrs. Anna King, Sam and Lois Fullen, D.A. and Katherine, Reese and Evelyn for me...

All the people and animals you loved...I hope they're all where you are.

Most of all, I hope I get to see you again someday. Miss you.
