Obituary

DELCAMBRE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mary Etta LeBlanc Sonnier Balsamo, age 97, at 10:00 am Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Fr. Ralph Landry will be the celebrant. Interment will be held in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland, Texas at 3:00 pm that afternoon. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of Delcambre on Thursday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of Delcambre on Thursday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.

Mary was born September 19, 1915 in Erath, LA to John and Lydia Miguez LeBlanc, and passed away peacefully on Monday, October 1, 2012 at Maison du Monde Nursing Home in Abbeville.

Mary enjoyed cooking, gardening and sewing, and especially spending time with her family. She leaves behind many fond memories that will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her children, Mattie Sonnier Babin of Delcambre, Terry Ann Sonnier Weekly of Parks, Stanley J. Balsamo of Creal Springs, IL, and Phyllis Balsamo Stone of Nacogdoches, TX; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 9 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip J. Balsamo; her sons, David Wayne Balsamo and Johnny Sonnier; grandchildren, Alvin Weekly, Jr., Brandy Weekly, and Shane Weekly; brother, Mervin LeBlanc; and sisters, Annabelle L. Waguespack, Mavely L. Guidry LeCompte, and Hazel L. Owen.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.
