Mary Elizabeth Spear Barton, 85, died October 2, 2013, after a short illness. Visitation will be on Friday, October 4, 2013, from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at Henry Cemetery in Corinth, MS. Dr. Leonard Pratt, her nephew, will be officiating.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband David William Barton and her parents Leonard Harrison Spear, Sr. and Jamie Walker Spear.
She is survived by her daughters, Jamie (Gary) Cook of Warner Robins, Marilyn Williams of Warner Robins, Alisa (Norman) Jones of Fleming Island, FL, her brother, Leonard Harrison (Janis) Spear, Jr. of Corinth, MS, sister Mildred Norman of Corinth, MS, five granddaughters, Angie (Russell) Matteo of Harvest, AL, Jill (Steven Albino) Jones of Fleming Island, FL, April (Larry) Redford of Green Cove Springs, FL, Brittany (William Jason) Smith of Warner Robins, Brandilyn (Zachary) Stroup of Martinez, GA, 7 great grandchildren, four nieces, two nephews, and her beloved dog Millie.
Born in Corinth, MS, Mary graduated from Corinth High School, attended Millsaps College and Mississippi State University, and earned a B.S. degree in business administration from Georgia College and State University. Before moving to Warner Robins in 1968, she also lived in Huntsville, AL and Atlanta, GA. Among the jobs she performed during her career, she most enjoyed her time as the administrative assistant for the Christian Council of Metropolitan Atlanta and writing a column for the Warner Robins Journal. She owned Mary's Shop in Warner Robins and was a retired civil service employee from Robins AFB.
Mary was an active member of First United Methodist Church in good standing, where she most recently belonged to the Friendship Bible Study and Circle #2.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to First United Methodist Church/ Television Ministry, 205 N Davis Dr., Warner Robins, GA 31093.
