Biography

Mary Edith Futhey Blanchard, 76, a 32-year resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on July 25, 2013. She was born on February 15, 1937 in Sumner, Mississippi and raised in Tutwiler, Mississippi. Mary graduated from the University of Mississippi and held graduate degrees from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. She was a teacher, counselor, and volunteer coordinator working in various places around the world according to her husband’s Air Force career. She organized the Hospice Volunteer Component for the Nursing Division of the (then) Clark County Health District before retiring in 2001. She was active in DOVIA, a national organization for the Volunteer Managers and the National Hospice Association. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Emma Flautt Futhey and Samuel Futhey, and her granddaughter, Amanda Leeman. Mary is survived by her husband of 51 years, Benny E. Blanchard; son, Michael Blanchard; daughter, Ceci (Brad) Leeman, all of Las Vegas, Nevada; step-daughter, Terrie Hamilton and grandson, Jacob of Boynton Beach, Florida; granddaughter, Alisha Cross; great-grandsons, Jayden and Brayden of Jackson, Michigan; daughters of the heart, Roxie Johnson and her daughter, Paris of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jenni Osborne of Seabeck-Holly, Washington, and Trixie Schmitz of Brenton, Nebraska; and many special friends from her “Carding” and church work. A Visitation and Rosary will be held at King David Memorial Chapel, 2697 East Eldorado Lane, Las Vegas, Nevada 89120 on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 from 3-7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Skies Chapel, Nellis AFB on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 11:30am. Burial will follow at the Palm Valley View Cemetery at 7600 S. Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada 89123.
