Mrs. Childers, 87, of Matthews, died Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Avante at Charlotte. A lifetime resident of Mecklenburg County, she was preceded in death by her parents, Sallie Hendrix Yost and R.W. Yost, sisters, Ruth, Bobbie, Catherine, Louise, Beulah, and her twin sister, Margaret, and brothers, R.W., Jr., Billy and David.
Mrs. Childers retired from Armstrong World Industries, and continued working for Charlotte- Mecklenburg school system at Crown Pointe as a cafeteria employee, where she retired at the age of 80.
She had a love of family, church family and Philadelphia Presbyterian Church hot lunch family. She was a caregiver to many.
Surviving are her children, Barbara Eveland and husband, Richard, Brenda Moore, Wade (Bubba) Childers, Jr. and wife, Lynn, and Robert Childers and wife, Kim; grandchildren, Rhonda Huntley, Candace Sperati and husband, John, Justin Childers, and Wesley Childers; great-grandchildren, Logan Kavanaugh and Kieran Sperati; and sisters, Sarah Turner and Laura Zetterquist.
Her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews Mint-Hill Road. A funeral service will be held 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 30, at Robinson Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Tim High officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
