Mary "Helen" Fries, 92, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 28, 2012 at Oak Lea Nursing Home.
She was born on March 20, 1919 in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Wilmer G. and Stella Smith Fries.
Helen graduated from Linville Edom High School and was a lifelong resident of the Harrisonburg area. She had been employed with Mundy Quarries and worked in the dietary department at Rockingham Memorial Hospital until retiring at age 82. She was a member of Linville United Methodist Church.
Helen was a caring and giving person with a quick laugh and a great sense of humor. Her nieces and nephews were like children to her.
On February 17, 1941 she married Charles Fries who preceded her in death on January 30, 1986.
She is survived by a sister, Naomi F. Rhodes of Harrisonburg, a brother-in-law, Oliver Trumbo; nieces and nephews, Pam Moyers, Sherry Butler, Roxanne Rhodes, Darryl Fries, O. T. Trumbo, John Trumbo, Tina Hutchenson, Sandy Haney, Peggy Schoenduby, Brent Fries and wife, Sharon; numerous great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Pauline Bridges, June Trumbo, and brother, Glen Fries.
Friends may call at the home of her sister, Naomi Rhodes at anytime.
A memorial service will be held 11:30 AM, Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with Rev. Clarence Moyers officiating. Burial will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to Linville United Methodist Church or Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community Foundation.
