I was saddened to hear about Mary's death when I received the Austin College Magazine today. Mary was my roommate at AC during my sophomore year (her junior year). She was the best roommate I ever could have had - her maturity got me through that year! My heart goes out to her family. What a special lady she turned out to be.

I feel fortunate to have known Mary and to do volunteer work with her. She always seemed to say the right thing at the right time. Rest well Mary for your earthly mission has been done and others will follow your path.

Mary was a dear and beloved friend. I only knew her for 2 years, and was honored to have her as part of my life. I quickly learned to appreciate her acerbic wit, and her ability to cut to the heart of my life's challenges and help me to see them in a different light. I will miss her forever.

What a wonderful example of strength and gentleness Mary has been for me, and for many others. Intelligent, thoughtful, inclusive spirit cheerily lifting others up by her presence. I definitely miss her and the stories of her adventures! And I am so grateful to have known her.

We were alerted to Mary's illness and death by our mutual friend Jennie Langham. We were so glad to reconnect w/ Mary on our long trip across the country in 2009, and now are so sorry to know of her death. May you be comforted in your sadness and warmed in your memories of her.

Mary was a dear old friend from the days when we read all the books in the children's section of the Bellaire library and then were allowed to graduate to the adult section. She went straight for "Lady Chatterly's Lover," which, alas, was behind lock and key and not available to us 11 year olds. Such a disappointment. She continued to blaze a trail through life, and the rest of us dull people got our our atlases and marveled at her adventures. We miss her and her whimsy, and our Chica group mourns her absence as we grieve with her family and friends.

Mary was wonderfully lucky to have so many amazing friends. However, there is a special group of us, the Chicas, who went to Bellaire High School (except one) and Austin College. We have MANY collective memories that go back over 50 years, and 14 years ago began corresponding by e-mail. Through all these years we have shared the ups and downs of our lives, recipes, book and movie recommendations, and much hilarity. We have been there for each other in moments of joy and loss. Mary's contributions were always wonderful to read although often I had to get out an atlas to figure out Where in the World was Mary Hahn!
RIP Mary and Godspeed. We miss you already! Diney
