Mary Lee (Doll) McCully Lewis was born November 26, 1924 in Oakdale, Louisiana to the parents of Henry McCully and Maude Captain Ballard. Mary was raised by her Aunt Ethel Captain after her mother's passing.

Mary met and married her first husband Ecker Burns Jr. to that union two sons were born Don Alfred and James Ray. In 1942 they moved the family from Louisiana to Portland.

In1959 Mary was blessed to have found love again with Walter Lee Lewis they were married for 47 years until his passing on Jan 18, 2006. Walter and Mary were blessed with five children Patricia Diana, Danny Ray, Glenn Lionel, Yulinda Marie and Shawntella Renee.

Mary affectionately known as "Doll" was blessed with a beautiful smile and a great sense of humor, her laughter would fill a room and when you heard her laughing it made you want to laugh too. It was infectious she would often say "that…tickled me". She was wise and very proud, and taught us things that usually came to pass. While giving us advice at the end she would say "Now, you watch what I say" …and she was usually right. She modeled strength and a strong-will that only a mother's love could provide. Mary rarely complained about her failing health as she always gave Jesus the praise. She believed and raised her family by traditional Christian values.

She dearly loved her family and was very protective of all of us. She was very sincere and honest and always spoke her mind, you could depend on that. And we always did.

Mary was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and served on the Usher Board for many years. In April 1998 she joined Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church where she remained an active and faithful member until her health prevented her from attending. As Mary's health declined this did not stop her from worshiping, Mary would read her bible every day. She is a child of GOD. She was the foundation that kept the family together and was truly loved by her children, family and friends.

Mary was predeceased in death by her parents, husband, Walter, two sisters, one brother, one son, one grandchild and one great grandchild.

Mary leaves to mourn her passing: two brothers, Spencer McCully (Idaho) and Sammy Ballard (Texas); three sisters, Jesse Doser (Idaho), Tina Willis (Idaho) and LaVerne Bihms (Texas); seven children, Don Afred Burns, Anchorage, AK, James Ray Burns, Portland, OR, Patricia Diane Lewis, Renton, WA, Danny Ray Lewis and Glenn Lionel Lewis of Burien, WA, Shawntella Renee Lewis of Portland, OR and Yulinda Marie Highsmith, Portland, OR; her eighteen (18) grand children, forty four (44) great grand children, sixteen (16) great great grand children and other friends and relatives who loved her immensely.
