Mary Kennedy McMinn passed away peacefully in Shreveport, Louisiana on Wednesday morning, January 9, 2013 at the age of 87 of natural causes and is now in the arms of her loving savior, Jesus Christ. She was a 45-year resident of Baton Rouge and an active member of St. Jude the Apostle Church for over 35 years. Mary was born in Peru Indiana on April 30th, 1925 to Edward and Marybelle Kennedy of 11 South Jefferson Street. Mary Kennedy McMinn passed away peacefully in Shreveport, Louisiana on Wednesday morning, January 9, 2013 at the age of 87 of natural causes and is now in the arms of her loving savior, Jesus Christ. She was a 45-year resident of Baton Rouge and an active member of St. Jude the Apostle Church for over 35 years.

Mary was born in Peru Indiana on April 30th, 1925 to Edward and Marybelle Kennedy of 11 South Jefferson Street. As a young girl, she attended St. Charles Church in Peru and graduated from Peru High School in 1943. Attending a USO dance as a USO girl in Kokomo, Indiana, she met a young serviceman during World War II. She was married to that serviceman, Wiley William McMinn, Jr on April 26, 1945 in Peru until Wiley passed away on June 12, 1996. Wiley graduated from Dartmouth College and was a proud member of the United States Navy as a pilot in World War II, flying TBF Avengers.

Mary is survived by her six children, Wiley McMinn (Judy) of Austin, Tom McMinn (Dianne) of Hempstead, Texas, Betsy(McMinn) Carter (Ed) of Colorado Springs, Steve McMinn (Michelle) of San Jose, California, Kenny McMinn (Dona) of Richmond, Texas, and Maureen (McMinn) Moore (Butch) of Haughton, Louisiana. She was also grandmother to 25 and great-grandmother of 38. Survived by her brother Jerry Kennedy (Barb) of Indianapolis, Indiana, sister-in-law Marge Kennedy of Indianapolis, daughter-in-law Beverly McMinn of Lafayette, and preceded in death by brothers Ed, Jim, and Don Kennedy. A fifth brother, William died in infancy.

Mary also worked at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge for over 30 years as an administrative assistant, but never lost her love for her Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Mary will be interred at Port Hudson National Cemetery in Port Hudson, Louisiana on January 14, 2013. A service will be held that day at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70802. Memorial contributions may be made to the in Mary's name.
