Mary Juanita McGowan, nee Taylor, 93, of Belleville, Illinois, born, June 12, 1923, in Cairo, Illinois, passed away, Friday, January 6, 2017, at her home, in Belleville, Illinois.

Mary was a jewel to all who knew and loved her. She was very creative and enjoyed various arts and crafts project. She was great at jewelry making, cooking, and scrapbooking as well. Mary was a loving mom, grandma, and great grandma. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Billy Eugene McGowan; her parents, Thomas Edgar Sr., and Mary nee Richardson, Taylor; her brother and his wife, Thomas E. "Teddy" (Betty) Taylor Jr.; her sister and her husband, Rozella (Forrest) Jennings; her grandson, Randy Hoey; and her son-in-law, Eric Johannsen.

Surviving are her loving daughters; Diana McGowan, Kathy Johannsen, and Rhonda Dietrich; her grandchildren, Jeffery McGowan, Kimberley (Loren) Cook, Amy (Chris) Koudelka, Joshua Callahan, David Dietrich and Sam Dietrich; her great grandchildren, Kayla, Sydney, Shelby, Sarah, Kenzy, Cooper, Easton, Audrey, and Aliyah; her special friend, Sandy Schmierbach; her caregiver, Tiggre Hudson; Amber and Lakitra from Vita's Hospice; the doctors and caregivers at St Paul's Hospital and Memorial Hospital; and a number of dear family and friends.

In lieu of flowers Memorials are appreciated to Shriner's Children's Hospital, or paying it forward by doing a good deed for someone else in Mary's memory.

Visitation: Friends may call from 9 am to 11am Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, Illinois. Funeral Services will begin immediately following the visitation at 11 am, Wednesday, January 11, 2017, Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, Illinois.

Mary was a very sweet lady and lived for her children. She is the mother of one of my dearest friends, Kathy. It is no mystery why Kathy is the kind, giving lady she is. She is just like her mom. Much Love,

I am so happy to have know Mary. She was the kindest lady ever. She made flower arrangements for my daughter just because she wanted to.I have several jewelry pieces she made and I will cherish them forever.Bob and I send our condolences to Mary's family.God bless all of you.
