MURPHY, Mary Alice (nee Martin) – Daughter of Florence (Soward) and Tom Martin, Mary died on May 7th, 2012 after a brief illness. She is survived by two sons, Michael (Debora) – Edmonton, AB, and Terry (Beth) – Denver. CO,10 grandchildren (Amanda, Ryan, and Teddy; Maggie, Paige and Emma; Alec, Jackie, Julia, and Jillian) and two sisters, Irene (Goode) and Joan (Murphy). Mary was predeceased by her husband, Frank and a son, Greg (May 2010). MURPHY, Mary Alice (nee Martin) – Daughter of Florence (Soward) and Tom Martin, Mary died on May 7th, 2012 after a brief illness. She is survived by two sons, Michael (Debora) – Edmonton, AB, and Terry (Beth) – Denver. CO,10 grandchildren (Amanda, Ryan, and Teddy; Maggie, Paige and Emma; Alec, Jackie, Julia, and Jillian) and two sisters, Irene (Goode) and Joan (Murphy). Mary was predeceased by her husband, Frank and a son, Greg (May 2010). She was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters: George, Kathleen (Kay) Bailly, William (Bill), Thomas (Tommie), Edward (Eddie), Clarence (Lammie), and Florence (Florrie) DeBelie. Mary was born in Halifax and raised on the shores of the Northwest Arm in Deadman's Cove. Her younger years were spent at the Armdale Yacht Club sailing in the summer and skating in the winter. Growing up through the depression and the Second World War, she met Frank and they married in 1951. She was an avid curler at the Halifax Curling Club through the 60's and 70's, and a golfer in her later years at the Ashburn Country Club. She was trained as a nurse at the Halifax Infirmary. Once her son's had left home she returned to a nursing career initially at the Civic Hospital and retiring from the Veterans facility. Mary was also an accomplished painter, a source of comfort and pride as she grew older. She has a large circle of friends: artists, golfers, bridge players and those of a lifetime growing up and living in Halifax. Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr, Halifax on Friday May 11th from 6-9 p.m. Funeral mass is at St. John the Baptist Church on Saturday May 12th at 10 a.m. Interment at a later date.
