Mary Lou Petty-Skok was born on April 5, 1915 in Spokane Washington. Mary Lou Petty-Skok was a sixteen year resident of Friendship Village in Tempe, Arizona where she passed away on April 2, 2014. She was 98 years and 362 days old when she passed. A memorial will be held in the Skirm auditorium at Friendship Village on April 19, 2014 at 10:00am. She is preceaded in death by parents Mary F. Watkins Petty, Walter E. Petty Sr., brother Walter Petty Jr., Her beloved husband Dr. Robert Gleason Skok and daughter Barbara Lee Skok-Baker and Bailey her dog. Mary Lou Petty-Skok was born on April 5, 1915 in Spokane Washington. Mary Lou Petty-Skok was a sixteen year resident of Friendship Village in Tempe, Arizona where she passed away on April 2, 2014. Watkins Petty, Walter E. Petty Sr., brother Walter Petty Jr., Her beloved husband Dr. Robert Gleason Skok and daughter Barbara Lee Skok-Baker and Bailey her dog. She is survived by daughter Helen Skok-Munger. and grandchildren Michelle Van Amburg, Chris Munger, Lynn Perry, Robin Munger, Ted Baker, Leslie Russell, Tracey Baker and 17 great grandchildren Ryan, Brandon, Danielle, Austin, Devyn, Trevor, Tyler, Bobbi, Sorcha, Christian, Carli, Garrett, Dillon, Olivia, Grace, Aaron & Jordan. Mary Lou Skok-Petty set sail for the 1936 Olympics in Berlin Germany in July of 1936 where she competed in the 400 meter freestyle. Upon her return she was met by her fiancé Dr Robert Gleason Skok and were married in St. Patricks Cahtedral on August 29, 1936. Following the birth of their two daughters they moved from Spokane Washing to Los Angelos California. Marly Lou woked for Lockheed assembling the Hudson Bomber for the war and was one of 1500 woman known as the "Rosie the Riviters" while her husband attended the school of Optometry. In 1949 the family moved to Tempe, Arizona where Dr. Robert Skok embarked on his Optometry practice. She and her husband became a founding member of Rolling Hills Golf club in Tempe, and member of Mesa Country Club until her death. She was senior Arizona Woman's golf champion. Her summers were spent with her husband and two daughters in Washington State at the Gleason Skok ranch where the family heritage and legacy will continue on for generations to come. Gleason Skok ranch continues to produce consciously raised, grass fed beef cattle and farming of the land with respect and pride. The legacy of Gleason Skok ranch will be carried forward by the family. She was inducted into the Inland Empire Hall of Fame in Spokane, Washington in 1974 and also the Pacific Northwest Swimming Hall of Fame in 2006. Mary Lou moved to Friendship Village in 1999 and lived there until her passing on April 2, 2014. She served as a volunteer on numerous committees, including napkin folding, bar tending, the list goes on and on. Her most notable contribution would be her "Ranch Toast", and will be sorely missed. She truly exemplified the spirit of Friendship Village making the most and best of every second of life.
