Mary Walsh Smith passed away on November 4, 2012 with her loving family by her side. She was 88 years old. Mary was born on October 30, 1924. Mary is the beloved wife of Edwin and devoted mother to Edwin Jr., Kathy Murphy and son-in-law Jay, and Diane Reeves. Mary loved being a Nana to Brian, Michael and Stephen Reeves. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Millie Jakuback, her nieces Amy Horine, Kathie Crozier and Tara Gioia, and nephew Anson Munjee. Mary was predeceased by her mother Ellen, father Henry, son Robin, and sisters Katherine Walsh and Ellen Munjee. Mary was a devoted Catholic and attended St. Catherine's Church in Blauvelt, NY. Mary graduated Magna Cum Laude from Dominican College of Blauvelt with a Bachelor's degree. She started her career in 1942 as the first copy "girl" for the Jersey City Jersey Journal and later rose to staff reporter. After taking time out to raise her family, Mary returned to reporting, this time for The Catholic News. Mary later worked for the County of Rockland; first in the Manpower program, and then adult protective services, until her retirement. Mary will always be loved and missed by all who knew her. Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4pm & 6-8pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, 10am, at St. Anthony's Church, Nanuet, NY followed by interment at St. Anthony's Cemetery.
