Mrs. Mary Martina Spann, age 99 of Griffin, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2011 at her residence.
Mrs. Spann was born May 12, 1911 in Cordova, TN, daughter of the late Oscar Berryhill and the late Addie Wylie Berryhill. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Spann earned a law degree in 1943 from the University of Memphis and also obtained her pilots license. She was a great lover of animals. Her husband, John Harry Spann preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter, Judy Shirey and her fiancé, Rudi Helms of Jackson; grandchildren, Jay & Tonya Shirey of Griffin, Jeremy & Dianna Shirey of Marietta and great-grandchildren, Grady Shirey and Emree Shirey.
Cyrptside funeral services for Mrs. Spann will be held Sunday, February 6, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Oak Hill Mausoleum. Jay Shirey will officiate. Friends may visit the family on Saturday, February 5, 2011 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ms Mary will be missed! She was always a true spitfire! I always wanted to be an adventurer like her. I know she is happy now to be with her true love Harry! I dont know of another couple so in love as they were. I was blessed to have known and loved them both!
