Dear Matthew
This year will be hard without such a dear friend. I miss your southern charm making me laugh long conversations when you were traveling. I will miss you always and keep you alive in my heart. Pray for the boys may they remember the precious father you were and keep wonderful memories alive. Love, Beth

Ringing in the holidays have a somber note this year, thinking of you so much. Thanksgiving knowing you'd eat the dessert first. Hattiesburg today where you spent much of your Army time & traveling 49 when an 18 wheeler came barreling toward me jumping the median with you on the line, talking me off the ledge. Memories every single day, My sweet Matthew. I can't call you but you haven't left me for a day. That's so you...your ma'am.

On this first thanksgiving without you, I'm missing you so very much. I'm thankful for the time that I was able to spend with you, although it seems too short of a time. I'm thankful for the relationship that we had and mourn for the future that we didn't get to have. I always love you and will miss you for the rest of my life.

Dear Sweet Brother Matthew, I will never be a wonderful poet like yourself, but I couldn't pass up the chance of wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving on your first in heaven. I miss and love you so much, I miss our conversations both by phone, texts, emails but I hold dear the ones in person the most over cups of coffee. Even though you were younger than myself, you always were able to teach or tell me something I didn't know or had forgotten whether it was history, something in our lives that you gave me advice on or just sitting and talking about our childhood and the pranks you would pull on us and all of us on each other and laughing so hard our coffee would come out our noses. I always looked forward to our early morning coffee at my house, I never figured out if it was because I had a pot that you didn't have to wait until fully brewed to get a cup or because you and I both liked our coffee strong (like tar) You are in heaven now and I have my memories. These times are the hardest and I miss you so much to the point I feel guilty at times because I know mom loosing her son has to be harder than myself loosing a brother. I would do anything to have you back for just a day, hour, or minute just to have a cup of coffee and conversation. I cant wait until we are united again in heaven, but until then give Dad, Mamaw, Papaw, and so many others a hug and kiss for me and keep strumming that guitar in heavens choir and singing like you did and blessing so many people here on earth with both as well as you being there for so many people. Love and miss you dear brother. Your sister, Sheri

I just learned of Matthew's death today, and I am shocked and very sad. He called on me when he was a pharmaceutical rep, and I always enjoyed talking with him. He was a real neat guy, and we had a lot in-common.

I am grateful for the amount of time, however brief, that Matt and I spent together so long ago. He is truly one of a kind-intelligent, chivalrous and beautiful inside and out. My favorite memory of Matt was an "argument" that he and I had in high school-he insisted on door-opening for me even though I refused. I, however, eventually caved. It was one of the rare times that I admitted that I was wrong at that age. Matt, you are and will always be missed.

During Matthew's membership of the Rotary Club we became associates. As the(food) caterer for the club, I was privileged to be considered as Matt put it..."a friend". He was a distinguished gentleman that always put his best on front. I often rendered my services for his drug rep ventures. He had a willingness to help and aid whomever in need. His advice so often to me was..."keep smiling sir". That message is now eternalized , thanks Matt. God bless and be with the family. Hold your head up Jackson.

Dear Matthew,
Writing has always come easy to me, except for now. I can't even begin to find the right words to tell you how very special you were to Katie and us. You were such a sweet, loving and giving man. You brought Katie so much peace and happiness and for this, we will always be grateful. She truly loved you with all her heart.
We were always impressed with the great love you had for your boys. They were very lucky to have you as their dad.
I really wish that we had had more time to get to know you but am thankful for the time that we did have. You will be incredibly missed by us. We pray for peace and comfort for all who love you.

'Oh Dear Me'- You were my teacher, connsumate roadie and best friend. Believer of most and a protector of all.
You were buried in the beautiful Tennessee mountains on the most sunny idyllic Spring day. True Southern gentleman American soldier fashion.
Reminiscent of your favorites, Faulkner and Williams.
Poetic justice.
Our daily talks will continue always and look forward to getting the last word in. Finally.
It was my honor to love and be loved by you, Sir.
Prayers for your amazing family. The apple never falls far from the tree.

Anne, I hope you receive this message and I am sorry it took me so long to leave my condolonces. When I was a kid, I looks up to Matthew. He had a presence that really brightened up a room whether he was at the table eating your amazing green beans, mashed potatoes and roast or on the couch cheering on the Vols as loud as he could. I still remember shooting hoops with Matthew and Daniel out back and how happy I was to be out there with them. I just want you to know how much he affected me and how much I loved him. I will miss Matthew, and I will always remember him. Please send my love to the family and hug Daniel for me. I love you all very much.

I know Matt and my nephew, David, were good friends all of their lives. I know Matthew will be missed, but his memory will live on in those who loved him.

My dear Matthew,
I couldn't start out on signing this guest book without starting it like everyone of my emails to you. You brought me back to life over and over again, during some of the hardest past couple years of my life. From the day I met you, your smile and kind spirit captured my heart. You never believed me when I said that you were one of the most kind and compassionate men I had ever met, but it does not change the fact that my words were totally true. I've listened to your last voicemail to me over and over, but I can't get past that I will never hear you tell me that you love me again on this earth. I can't begin to tell you how broken my heart is right now, how many directions my mind is going, or how intensely I miss you already. You were the light of my life and I will always love you.
Love,
Ms. Katilda

Matt Holbrook was a mentor to me during high school, in scouts and at UT. Outside my own family, he influenced me more than any other person. I can say definitively that I have learned more in my life, I have lived a more interesting life and I have a greater appreciation for life having known Matt. I look forward to seeing Matt again when my time here is done. Ann, Daniel and the rest of the family, I'll be praying that God grant you peace and comfort in your loss.

Matthew, my pain pales in comparison as your beautiful boys and family are experiencing a loss unmatched. Still, in times like these, I need you most... I am lost without you.

Knowing that I can no longer pick up the phone and call you; knowing I will no longer hear your beautiful singing across the miles; knowing I will no longer be graced with your poetry, knowing that I will never again be greeted with your morning phone call or specific Friday text message to kick off my day, knowing that I will no longer hear the love and excitement in your voice as you speak of your 3 little men; Jackson, Nolan and Preston, and so much more.

You have been my confidant, my voice of reason, my "other brother", my counselor and therapist, my personal comedian, my comfort; my sunshine and perfect friend. The time we shared was cut short - far too short.

You are correct, the Texas Bluebonnets may miss you - and yes, they seek you each Spring. I will miss you every Season for the rest of my days, my Matthew. You made my life more beautiful and I thank you. Until we meet again... Love you so very much, your Alicia Ann......

Knowing Matt for the last 10 years or so has been a blessing. He was polite, gentle and caring. Over the years we shared a lot and I was truly blest to finally have him working for me.

I have many projects and plans that were just beginning with him in mind. He was making plans of how to handle working here and spending time with the boys. They were really the center of his life. Even though I haven't seen the boys since I first met Matt I feel like I still know them, he talked about them constantly.

This is a man that everyone should have had a chance to know and love cause that was something he did well, loving everyone.

My heart is filled with tears of sadness because I lost my best friend. Matt was my "make-believe son" away from home when we met at UT in Army ROTC. We shared so many things together and we saw each other every day while he was at UT. We also kept in touch with each other after graduation and he would visit me frequently when he was in town. I have never met such a gentle and kind man. He was a wonderful father and loved his children so much. I had the pleasure of knowing his family and my thoughts and prayers are with them at this time.
