Matt was born on October 6, 1984, in Moline, Illinois. Along with his brothers Christopher Russell, Garrett Truman, and Parker Truman, he was a constant source of joy and chaos to parents Annette and Brad. Matt loved his parents and brothers which was shown through his constant pranks. He graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in 2003. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp from 2003 through 2008 serving two tours in Iraq. After serving in the Marine Corp he worked at the Rock Island Arsenal. Matt was a business major attending four years at St. Ambrose University.
Matt promised his life to his soulmate Deena on July 19, 2012 and was a loving, dedicated husband. He was very attentive to her and enjoyed showering her with surprises, taking her to dinner and the movies, and especially cuddling on the couch at home and watching their favorite shows together. Between them had five children whom he adored: Alex, Elizabeth, Camden, Isaac, and Olivia. Matt was very much a family man and enjoyed family activities especially backyard fires, gardening, going to the zoo, family movie nights, family wrestling matches, and even painting finger and toe nails (on the girls only!). He was constantly working on his many projects in and out of the house (the neighbors will surely miss the spotlights in the middle of the night!).
Matt had a very big and kind heart and will be missed by his many friends and family. He is survived by his wife Deena Russell (Davenport), son Camden Russell (McCausland), step-children: Alex, Liz, Isaac, and Liv; parents: Annette DeSmet (Nevada) and Brad Truman (Bettendorf); brothers: Chris Russell (Davenport), Garrett (Samantha) Truman (Nevada), and Parker Truman (Nevada); sisters: Alli Johnston (Illinois) and Bella Russell (Illinois) ; grandparents: Bob DeSmet (Illinois) and Kathy (Harold) Neilsen (Illinois), and Suzi Russell (Illinois); and many aunts, uncles, cousins, a niece, and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joan and Dwayn Truman.
