MAURICE CAMYRÉ

With great sadness, we announce the peaceful death of Maurice Camyré, our dearly loved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle on Tuesday, January 15th, 2013 at River Park Gardens Personal Care Home at the age of 97 years.

Maurice is survived by daughters Donna Langdon (Bruce), Carol Mitchell, Joan Wendt (Darrel); grandsons David Langdon (Laura), Jon Mitchell; granddaughters Jayna Mitchell, Alison Langdon (Matt Bryant), Sherry Wendt (Patrick Grosse), Laura McDermid (Michael), Laura Langdon (Brandon Gruidl ), and great-grandchildren Oscar and Sofie Langdon-Streeter and Maxwell Langdon. He is also survived by his sister, Doris Harrow.

Maurice married the love of his life, Mary (Polly) Stewart on June 1st, 1940. He began his 34 year career at Air Canada as an aircraft technician in 1941. Their love of dancing and playing cards filled many Saturday evenings with Air Canada friends and family members. Dad and Mom especially enjoyed traveling to Alberta and California to visit grandchildren.
Maurice lost his beloved wife Polly, on Nov. 5th, 2007. He was predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Agnes Rose Camyré, and his brothers Max, Charlie, and Joe.

Maurice was born in St. Vital on March 10th 1915. Raised and educated in St. Vital, Dad started his boxing career at the Eclipse Club. Great thrills of his career included winning the Golden Gloves Award and the Dominion Welter Weight Championship in 1935. The highlight of his career was representing Canada in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany. Following the Olympics he turned professional but retired from boxing in 1937 due to an elbow injury. He was inducted into the Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame in Toronto on Oct. 28th, 1977.

Dad was a kind, gentle and caring man, a hero to his family. A man of great faith, he was a Member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Bernadette Parish, serving as an usher at mass. As a Knight, he helped build the St. Amant Centre. He devoted many hours in service to others, whether helping family, friends or those in need. He will be deeply missed and his memory treasured.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gilles Pinette and staff of River Park Gardens Personal Care Home for their superb and compassionate care. We are grateful to Dad's sister, Doris Harrow and Jake Houtop for their loving support.

A celebration of Maurice's life will take place on Sat. Jan. 26th at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy. #1 East at Navin Road. A private family interment will take place.

If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society, 120 Donald St, Winnipeg, Mb. R3C 4G2
