Max Bullard Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 1, 2015.

Harold "Max"Bullard left this earth on April 1, 2015, surrounded by his family. Max was born Dec. 19, 1927 in Red Rock, OK to Harold Scott and Vaughn Gwendolyn (Mathis) Bullard. He was the oldest of six who were raised between Red Rock, Edmond and the Oklahoma City area. He moved to Cheyenne Valley, OK as a teenager, and graduated valedictorian from Cheyenne Valley High School. Max was a veteran who joined the Coast Guard after high school and was honorably discharged June 5, 1946. He was also a member of the Oklahoma National Guard. Upon discharge Max sought to further his education and attended Central State College and the University of Tulsa. Max met his beloved wife, Shirley (Watson) while working in New Orleans. They were married after a whirlwind six week romance, for 57 blissful years. Max loved and adored Shirley his whole life. He was her compassionate caregiver during her illness until her death in 2009. It was a love affair for the ages. He spent his working years in the oilfield as a petroleum engineer. His work took him to many different places throughout Oklahoma, West Texas, Kansas and Louisiana, as well as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Venezuela. Max was a valued employee and made many friends at the companies where he worked. Max was blessed with three adoring daughters, Cheryl Bullard, Cindy Foley and Cassie Murphy. He was a loving and devoted father who cherished and supported his girls throughout his life. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He cherished his family and the time spent with them. Max was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed this with his son in law and grandsons. He also enjoyed golfing and would play as he was able. Traveling was another enjoyment that took him to various destinations in Central America, Mexico and the Carribean. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley and daughter Cindy, as well as his parents; brothers, Jack, Jerry and Lewis; and his sister Melba Goerke Flesher. He is survived by his daughters Cheryl Bullard and Cassie Murphy; son in laws, John Foley (Janice) and Pat Murphy; grandsons David Foley (Stephanie), Daniel Foley (Ema), Collin Murphy and Ryan Murphy; great grandsons, Blaine Foley and Archer Foley; his brother, Ralph Bullard (Starley); numerous nieces, nephews and friends and his late in life companion, Jeanene Carver. A celebration of Max's life will be held April 19 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Ed Lycan Conservatory and Plaza at the Rose Garden at Will Rogers Park in Oklahoma City. Memorial donations can be made to Oklahoma Wildlife Federation or the melanoma research project at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Dear Grandad,
You had three daughters. In some respects I felt like a son to you and Ma, being your first grandson. From all the Thanksgivings and Christmases, birthdays, pool parties, Fourth of Julys, sporting events... My most favorite was hunting and fishing with you because it was just us. I pray the verse from The Bible, John 3:16, so many times for you. I have hope and love for you, but only God knows the rest.

Hey daddy, miss you more than words can say. You were absolutely the best dad ever. I was truly a daddy's girl, and so thankful I got to be a daddy's girl for 62 years. Give mom mad Cindy a kiss from me and I'll live a life you would be proud of until we meet again.
