Major, Max S. 1923-2012
Husband of the late, Betty (Whitsel) Major; father of Edward, Debbie (John) Vitale, Cindy (Dale) Grant, and Misty (Jeff) Humbolt; stepfather of Terry (Margie) Strothman; son of the late, Shirl and Bernie "Bernetta" Major; brother of the late Rex, Margie, and Wayne Major; dear friend of "Tanner" Rodgers, Joe Randazzo, and Ed Dierberg. Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Great Great Grandpa, Uncle, and Cousin.
Max was a Marine veteran of WWII with service on Midway and with 3rd Division on Guam. He graduated in 1941 from Wellston High School and was a member of the Hillsdale Boys' Club under Dan Hogan. He was a Hillsdale policeman and worked for 36 years for Wager Electric and served in security for the St. Louis Art Museum.
Services: Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 22 from 4-8 p.m. at Hoffmeister South County Chapel, 1515 Lemay Ferry Rd. and from 12:30 pm until the time of the funeral service at 1:30 pm on Monday July 23, at the First Baptist Church of Lemay, 1601 Telegraph Rd. Interment will follow in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Memorials are appreciated to the First Baptist Church of Lemay. Expressions of condolence may be made to www.hoffmeistersouthcounty.com.
