Max Carl Withers went peacefully from this life on July 23, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born September 28, 1930 to George Carl and Vera Felt Withers in Garfield, Utah becoming the 2nd of four children (Eula, Max, Ray and Carol). The family later moved to Salt Lake where he attended Granite High School, graduating in 1948. Soon after, he was drafted into the Army and served in Japan during the Korean conflict. He was a life-long employee of Kennecott Copper Corporation, retiring after 32 years. Max met and fell in love with Margene Clark while she was attending nursing school at the University of Utah. They married on April 2, 1954 in the Idaho Falls Temple. Max loved his family and took them on many road trips, Lagoon outings, and taught them the value of hard work. All children were drawn to Max. He was the favorite Dad, uncle, grandpa and great-grandpa to many. His favorite job was being 'Grandpa Taxi" delivering his grandkids to and from school, piano lessons and dance lessons. He drove long distances to make sure all of his kids and grandkids knew they were loved. Max loved children, dogs, missionaries, fireworks, helping with building projects and being with his family. Max was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Eula and his brother Ray. He is survived by his wife, Margene Clark Withers, his children, Julie (Geoff) White, Naomi (Ricky) Hopf and Jim (C.J.) Withers, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014 from 6-8:00pm at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park (3401 S Highland Drive). Funeral services will be held on Tuesday July 29, 2014 at the Garden Heights North Ward Building (2220 Fischer Lane (2935 S)) beginning at 12:00 noon. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park immediately following the funeral services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making donations to the Church of Jesus Christ, General Missionary Fund.
