Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 25, 2016.

Of Woodbury, Minnesota

Passed away peacefully on November 24, 2016 with her family by her side at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her Husband of 72 years, Lloyd; Parents, John and Iva; and Sister, Patricia. Maxine is survived by Sons, LTCOL USAF (ret) Barry (Dot), John (Annette), and Joey (Dianne); Grandchildren, Missy Vilas, Brett Johnson, Alison (Lucas) Charles, LCDR USN Luke (Amanda) Johnson, Sam Johnson, and Emily Johnson; Great-Grandchildren, Scott and Maddison Vilas, Wyatt, Sydney, and Hayden Charles, and Rhett Johnson; Great Great-Grandchild, Temperance Maxine Vilas; and other Family and Friends. Maxine was born in Harris, Minnesota. She was baptized, confirmed, and married in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Harris where she was a member for 57 years. A child of the depression, Maxine was born in the Pioneer Store in Harris. She attended Harris School and North Branch High School where she graduated in 1938 and would later serve as PTA President. She married Lloyd on July 16, 1942, and managed the home front while he was overseas in the US Army. Maxine loved music of all genres, playing piano, singing with her husband Lloyd, and anchoring the alto section in every church choir where she attended. She was proud to have been a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 139 in Harris for nearly 70 years. After the war, she helped Lloyd run the Clover Hill Turkey Farm until 1977 when they moved to Hollywood, Florida. While living there, she managed and kept the books at a 62 unit condominium, where she accounted for every penny as was her custom. They joined St John's Lutheran in Hollywood and began entertaining at various venues with a song and dance act, singing duets, with Maxine on piano, and Lloyd on the violin. In 2003, Lloyd and Maxine moved to Woodbury, Minnesota and became active members of King of Kings Lutheran Church. They gave more than 150 performances at Stonecrest Senior Complex, entertaining with gospel, country, and oldies music. Maxine was always stepping up to help others and was loved dearly by everyone in her community. She loved her God, family, and country. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, November 29, at 10:00 AM with Service at 11:00 AM at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 1583 Radio Drive, Woodbury, Minnesota. Brett I am so very sorry. I know how deep your love is for your grandparents. I am glad they are reunited. That is at least a "Thank you God" moment. May it bring you comfort. Prayers for you and your family. Love you Brett.
