NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mazel Gardemal Romero, age 75, at 10:00 am Monday, April 23, 2012 at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church. Fr. Ed Degeyter will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia on Sunday from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm, with the Rosary being recited at 6:30 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Monday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.
A native of St. Martinville and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Romero passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Dauterive Hospital, with her family at her side.
Mazel was a homemaker who loved taking care of her family and tending to their needs. She had a passion for working in her yard and tending to all of her beautiful flowers and plants. She was the type of person to never meet a stranger and was a caregiver to many throughout the years.
She leaves behind many fond memories that will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Lester J. Romero, Sr. of New Iberia; her children, Darlene B. Robinson and husband Steve of New Iberia, Sharon R. Moss and husband Bob and Karen R. Chaney and husband Glenn of Montgomery, TX, Ronald "Bookie" Boutte and wife Anna of Loreauville, Les Romero Jr. and wife Cindy of St. Martinville, Karl Boutte and wife Tina of Arkansas, Carolyn R. Simar and husband Joey of New Iberia, Marilyn R. Neal and husband Wayne of Grenada, MS, and Craig J. Boutte and wife Alice of New Iberia; 27 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; a brother, Curtis Gardemal of Coteau Holmes; and her sisters, Daisy Laviolette and Theresa Barras of Catahoula, and Shirley Guidry of St. Martinville.
She was preceded in death by her husband of first marriage, Gerald "Toke" Boutte; parents, Marcel Gardemal, Sr. and Linda Dugas Gardemal; and her siblings, Hazel Stevens, Juanita Gardemal, and Marcel Gardemal, Jr.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons.
