Obituary

  McLloyd H. Shanks “Max”, 86, passed away May 8, 2014. Max was born in Birmingham, AL, but spent most of his life in Jacksonville, FL. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Army, Airborne Division. He was a railroad engineer for CSX for 38 years. Max was the founder and first president of the Fred H. Brown chapter of the 82 nd Airborne Division. He was a third order Carmelite as well as a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was one of the founding members of Christ the King Parish. McLloyd H. Shanks “Max”, 86, passed away May 8, 2014. Max was born in Birmingham, AL, but spent most of his life in Jacksonville, FL. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Army, Airborne Division. He was a railroad engineer for CSX for 38 years. Max was the founder and first president of the Fred H. Max was preceded in death by his first wife Gloria and daughter Marie. He is survived by wife, Mary; sons, Michael (Ann), Curtis, Matthew; daughters, Cissy, Melise (Grady); step-children, Ronald Sills (Chrys), Steve Sills (Marcy), Cathy Duncan (Bryan), Beth Sweat (Randy), Lori Ann Clift (Chuck); sister, Joan Skipper (Frank); 34 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.



A visitation will be held Sunday, May 11 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin beginning at 5pm and concluding with the Rosary from 7-8pm. The funeral service will be Monday, May 12 at 10am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 11730 Old St. Augustine Rd. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the Cody Center. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Divine Mercy House, 4118 Loretto Rd.
