Melinda Chapman Mewbourne, age 84, resident of Columbus, died on Monday, December 26, 2016 at Columbus Hospice House. Graveside services are scheduled at Parkhill Cemetery on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, 3 p.m.
Mrs. Mewbourne was born May 16, 1932 in Cornelia, Georgia, daughter of the late OlaBelle Wood Chapman and Pierce Chapman. She grew up in Gainesville, Georgia where she graduated from Gainesville High School in 1949.
Mrs. Mewbourne attended North Georgia College in Dahlonega, Georgia for three years, receiving her BS degree in Pharmacy in 1955 from the University of Georgia. While attending the University of Georgia, she was a member and treasurer of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, President of Professional Panhellenic Council, a founding member of the UGA chapter of Lambda Kappa Sigma Pharmacy Sorority, and sweetheart of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity.
She was employed by Georgia Baptist Hospital, Russell Drugs, and retired from St. Francis Hospital in 1994 where she was Director of Pharmacy. Mrs. Mewbourne was a former member of First Baptist Church of Gainesville, Georgia and current member of Morningside Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband, Lloyd Radford Mewbourne. Mrs. Mewbourne is survived by faithful companions from Comfort Keepers, her wonderful friends and neighbors, and many special cousins.

Ms. Linda was such a blessing to me. She was my director when I worked at St Francis. She is one of the reasons I made it through school. She stood behind me and worked with my school schedule for over 3 years if it wasn't for her patience with me I would have never made it. She will be missed greatly. Love Tammy.
