Melvin Arnold Adams was born August 8, 1921 to Howard Alton and Margery Alice (Disbrow) Adams. Mel passed away on July 7, 2010 after a long and full 88 years. Mel served in the Army during World War II. On July 4 1921, Mel married Ruth Ellen Splan. They were married for 67 years until Ruth's death on February 28, 2009. Together they raised 5 children. Mel played a big part in his children's lives and help guide his sons through many years as a Scout leader for the Boy Scouts. Mel continued to lend a hand to the Boy Scouts by donating time, equipment and supplies throughout the years. Mel and Ruth were active members of the Agoura Chamber...
Melvin Arnold Adams was born August 8, 1921 to Howard Alton and Margery Alice (Disbrow) Adams. Mel passed away on July 7, 2010 after a long and full 88 years. Mel served in the Army during World War II. On July 4 1921, Mel married Ruth Ellen Splan. They were married for 67 years until Ruth's death on February 28, 2009. Together they raised 5 children. Mel played a big part in his children's lives and help guide his sons through many years as a Scout leader for the Boy Scouts. Mel continued to lend a hand to the Boy Scouts by donating time, equipment and supplies throughout the years. Mel and Ruth were active members of the Agoura Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis for many years. Mel served as President of both. Mel earned the "Golden Spatula" award from the Kiwanis organization for his many donated BBQ-ing hours. Mel also served
as Lieutenant Governor for Kiwanis. Mel always made time to serve the community that was so important to him.He donated so many things to Agoura High School and various building projects throughout Agoura and Westlake Village-. He became part of his comminity when he and Ruth opened Agoura Equipment Rentals on August 8, 1966 before Agoura was the thriving community it is today. Agoura Equipment Rentals was among the first businesses to set up shop in Agoura. Mel and Ruth were also avid travelers. They started off with a camper on the back of a pickup truck and through the years graduated to a large motor home. Laughlin was one of their favorite places to visit. Mel and Ruth were both devoted Dodgers fans. Mel was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Margery, his wife Ruth, his younger brother Merle and son Jimmy. He is survived by his brothers Glenn, Harold and Ray, his children Melvin and wife Janet, Larry and wife Peggy, Nancy, Marianne and husband Mickey, 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mel's life will be held on Thursday, July 15th at 12pm at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Mortuary in Westlake Village.
