Melvin F. Cloukey 81 passed away unexpectedly after a short illness. Melvin leaves his devoted wife of 54 years, Gladys (Chamberland), his 3 loving children, daughter Karen Kinneair and son-in-law Ron, his son Kevin, his son Kerry and daughter-in-law Nadine. He has 3 beloved grandchildren, Joseph S. Rizzo III, Matthew Ayala and Kayla Cloukey. Melvin leaves his brother Norman Cloukey, wife Sylvia and sister Geraldine Collins. He is predeceased by his parents Paul and Cecile Cloukey. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews. Melvin retired from the Fafnir Bearing Company after many years of service. Melvin was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, VFW of New Britain, and the French Model Club. Melvin proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
Melvin was extremely proud of his grandson, Joseph, who is following in his footsteps. Joseph is fulfilling his dream of serving in the US Army. He is equally proud of his grandson, Matthew, who is pursuing an education in the medical field. And to his best friend and playmate Kayla, remember Papae loves you, loved spending time with you and will always be as proud of you as his other 2 grandchildren. To his extended grandchildren that knew him as Papae, he loved you all.
Melvin could more often than not be found in his garage, he loved to "tinker". Any time something didn't need to be fixed, he felt he could make it work better. Sometimes it worked and other times it didn't. He took lots of pride in working on his tractor. He made them look and operate just like the day he bought it, 44 years ago. No matter if it was Gladys' good cooking or an ice cold beer, Melvin would be asked how something was and his favorite response would be "Not too bad".
