Friend

Melvin Alexander

Melvin was a great guy and a good friend to me not only when I lived in Buffalo, but also when I relocated. We shared not only the same name but the same birthday! I was truly shocked by his passing as Im sure others were as well. Ill cherish his memory and always remember the good times we shared together, and through our phone conversations. Melvin was TOO good to be forgotten. Its hard to believe that so many years have gone by since he passed, so its so very true that time waits for no man/woman. Rest in peace my brother! Stay strong Christine.

Your pain in the rear little sister

April 5, 2013

Spring is here and in a couple weeks you'd be 55! You could never remember that Dick is actually older than you were! I'm sorry we didn't get around to letting you treat us to Bob and Johns pizza and wings. We're going there in your honor, and you will be there in spirit, treating us. I see the flowers coming up and I'm thinking of you and how much you liked the warmer weather.
Love You, Brother

p.s. I like the sweet voice mails you left on my cell. Thanks.

Your little sis

March 18, 2013

It has been exactly a month since my brother passed. I miss him so much. I miss his phone calls and his laugh. His passing has touched me so much, never knew how much I would miss him till he was gone. Taught me never leave things to tomorrow, for tomorrow may not come. Each day say I love you to those we love, Though Mel isn't here to hear those words, Each day I say them to him in my heart.

I didn't really get to know Uncle Melvin too well, but what I did know was that he was kind and always thinking of others.
Even when I was a kid he always supplied me with endless fun and laughs. We would go out with my dad and Chrissy , he and I would be in the back seat, my dad and Chrissy would start talking and he'd chime in little funny remarks about their conversation.
Lots of good memories, he will be missed.

I met Mel in the TV repair shop at Seneca in 1975.Our intense interest TVs drew us together as friends and that friendship remained intact for the last 37 years.Mel had a TV workshop in his basement and we spent many nights there working on old TVs sometimes 'till 3am.We got really good at carrying big heavy consoles down that little staircase,I don't know how we did it. Mel was an amazing tech and I learned alot working with him. We were encouraged by his uncle Leonard Vaccaro who fixed TVs. Mel had a room in the basement that was set up with old furniture like the '40s except for the TV from the '50s and rack stereo from the '60s.What a cool place. We both loved old radios and I still have one that I got from him about 25 years ago. When I opened my TV repair shop in 1981 Mel used to come and help me work on the "tough dogs"that could make you pull your hair out.It was so much fun,he really knew his stuff.I'm going to miss his random phone calls "hey Paulie, just want to see how your doing".I always wanted to be a TV repairman and Melvin helped me achieve that goal and I will always be gratefull for that.32 years after its beginning Burgio's TV is still on Main St and doing well. Thanks Mel...I'm going to miss you.

Mel: This is your landlord buddy. I offered you the only apartment that you ever had since you left your Mom's home and you stayed for more than 6 years. In the process, we have become friends. I thought you would never leave and that certainly is fine with me. From time to time when we saw each other, we would talk about the good old days. Sometimes we talked about your mother that I also come to know before she passed. I know you missed her very much and now you can be with her in heaven. My condolences to your fine sisters and their families. Rest in peace, my friend. Ray Wong

To the family of Mel Emert,
We pray the Lord will give you strength through these times. Mel befriended our families (the Latham & Jackson's) and we were happy to have known him. He had remarkable skills in the electronic and technical fields and was always willing to share his knowledge. He was a brother to be proud of!

I met my friend at Seneca HS. We began riding to and from school together, I hung out in the Basement listening to music from Rush to Jack Jones and listening to Mrs. Emert stomping on the floor to make him turn it down, then he added a few wires and she was able to enjoy Jack Jones through her TV upstairs. Once at dinner over at his house Mrs. Emert served Spaghetti and Mel shouted give Gary a rib! and she did, it was in the sauce...
We have had a lot of great times.
My family loved Melvin too and the deals he gave only them on TV's.
In class you taught me more than Mr. Tona...Thanks You, But you were smart enough to sit in his office instead of with us. My thoughts & prayers go out to all of his friends & family, he will be truly missed.

Martin Vaccaro

Mel was more like a brother than cousin. We talked on the phone at least twice a week. His uncle, and my late father, Len Vaccaro treated Mel like an adopted son and helped Mel repairing t.v.s when he was about 13. Mel's repair shop in Aunt Jean's basement had a sign-Lennie and Mel's Repair Shop-We Fix Everything. I still have the EXIT sign that hung over the door. Mel had a heart of gold, and he certainly went too soon. The bible speaks of the resurrection hope Mel and I talked about and being able to go fishing with our fathers, Donald, and Uncle Chuck. Until then, I'll be thinking of all the great times we shared. I'll miss you and I love you Martin Vaccaro

Melvin and I became childhood friends close enough we considered each other family. He loved to work on electronics and used to go around the neighborhood looking for any electronics he could take apart and put back together,I played a big part, I helped him carry the parts home. (He was about 6 years old at the time). I Will always hold the memories with in my heart. I will miss him dearly. Though we will see each other again. God bless and I love you.

I got to know Melvin over the past six months. He would sit and tell me stories, and I would ask him questions. I will always remember the parting conversation we had after a deep discussion regarding the meteor that crashed into Russia. Melvin told me; 'Nothing in this life lasts. You just got to be happy with what you have and keep living'
Melvin's words made me feel wiser and happier the moment after he spoke them. I will always cherish the happy memories I have of him.

Mel..I only met you once or twice via your wonderful sister Chris. But I'm reminded of the laughs[not at your expense]we'd get, when at work,Chris would relate the latest Mel story. You lived life to its fullest and on top of that, you fixed my 1950s radio that everyone else said would be unfixable.I liked you a lot though we only met several times, and I think the world would be a lot poorer if you hadn't left your mark on it.

Melvin would come over everyday, he was one of the pack members and had the ability to brighten anyone's day. Melvin made a lot of friends at my house and he loved Ivan my German shepherd and Ivan loved him back, They had a special relationship: where some days Melvin would take Ivan for a walk and on other days Ivan would take Melvin for a walk. And on Sunday the last day i saw Melvin he left my house glowing and the happiest i had ever seen him, I will always remember the smiling face he had when he left that day and i know that he is resting in peace and died happy.
