Lt. Col. Melvin L. (Dutch) Heslop, USAF Ret. Melvin Lee (Dutch) Heslop, age 89, a ten year resident of Kingwood and previously of Petersburg, VA and San Antonio, TX, died July 9, 2014. He was born July 25, 1924 in Waco, TX to Earl S. and Myrtle G. Heslop. Dutch entered the Army Air Corps on August 13, 1945. After almost 39 years of active and reserve duty, he retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve on July 25, 1983 with the rank of Lt. Colonel. Lt. Col. Melvin L. (Dutch) Heslop, USAF Ret.

Melvin Lee (Dutch) Heslop, age 89, a ten year resident of Kingwood and previously of Petersburg, VA and San Antonio, TX, died July 9, 2014. He was born July 25, 1924 in Waco, TX to Earl S. and Myrtle G. Heslop.

Dutch entered the Army Air Corps on August 13, 1945. After almost 39 years of active and reserve duty, he retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve on July 25, 1983 with the rank of Lt. Colonel. Early in his military career he was stationed at Eglin AFB in Florida and Casablanca, Morocco.

Graduating from St. Mary's University in San Antonio with a BBA where he was a member of Kappa Pi Sigma, Dutch worked as an accountant, receiving his CPA license in 1969. Dutch and his wife Page moved to Virginia in 1975, settling in Petersburg where he was employed by the U.S. Government at Fort Lee. He retired from government service in July 1994.

Dutch was a member of Kingwood First Baptist Church and served faithfully as Treasurer of the Houston Northeast Camp of Gideons International. He enjoyed working on the computer, traveling, and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-two years, Eleanor Page Walker Heslop, his parents, two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife Alma Tenant Heslop; daughter and son-in-law Ann Elizabeth Zibrat and Eugene L. Zibrat of Laurel, Maryland; daughter and son-in-law Melanie Lee Bankston and John R. Bankston Jr. of Kingwood; granddaughter Heather Page Bankston and husband Kristopher Shane Rogers of Haleiwa, Hawaii; grandson Capt. Andrew Charles Bankston, USMC, and wife Sherri Renee Bankston, and two great-grandchildren Nathaniel John Bankston and Paige Marie Bankston of Lexington Park, Maryland. Survivors also include his sister Frances Henderson and husband Tom Henderson of Fort Worth, TX, and brother John. E. Heslop of Nederland, TX along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Houston Northeast Camp of Gideons International or the DeBakey Fisher House of Houston.
