Merilyn has Long Beach roots that stretch back to the late 1800's when her grandfather, William Watkins, sold the ranch in Alliance, Nebraska and established the family in Long Beach. She is one of the oldest charter members of the First Church of the Nazarene in Long Beach, and taught Sunday School for many years. Besides being a homemaker, Merilyn worked as a beautician in Bixby Knolls for two decades, then switched careers to real estate. She lived in the family home she and Newt bought new in 1948 until 3 years ago when she moved to Vintage Cerritos Senior Living where she passed away Thursday morning.

Merilyn will always be lovingly remembered for her solid character and generous spirit. A Private Service will be held Sunday, August 17th at 5:00pm at Luyben Family Dilday Mortuary in Lakewood. Please sign the guest book at www.presstelegram.com/obits.

Arrangements under the direction of Luyben Family Dilday-Mottell Mortuary, Long Beach, CA.
