Merlene Golda Trahan, 80, died Tuesday, August 25, 2015, in a local hospice. She was a native of Mulhall, Oklahoma and had been a resident of Vinton for nearly 60 years. Merlene had a love for painting, gardening, and flowers, and especially enjoyed listening to music. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include her sons, Michael D. Trahan and wife, Pamela of Vinton, Bryan J. Trahan of Lake Charles, and Timothy A. Trahan of Vinton; her sister, Jill Ellender and husband, Bobby of Lake Charles; seven grandchildren, Joshua Trahan, Jennifer Sepulvado, Kathleen DeLuca, Jesse Hoffner, Justin Trahan, Kristina...
Merlene Golda Trahan, 80, died Tuesday, August 25, 2015, in a local hospice.

She was a native of Mulhall, Oklahoma and had been a resident of Vinton for nearly 60 years. Merlene had a love for painting, gardening, and flowers, and especially enjoyed listening to music. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include her sons, Michael D. Trahan and wife, Pamela of Vinton, Bryan J. Trahan of Lake Charles, and Timothy A. Trahan of Vinton; her sister, Jill Ellender and husband, Bobby of Lake Charles; seven grandchildren, Joshua Trahan, Jennifer Sepulvado, Kathleen DeLuca, Jesse Hoffner, Justin Trahan, Kristina Trahan, and Jade Trahan; and three great-grandchildren, Ian Trahan, Violet DeLuca, and Dominic DeLuca. She is preceded in death by her husband, Benford M. Trahan; a son, Dale C. Trahan; daughter-in-law, Linda Trahan; her parents, Merlen and Hassie Mertena; and brothers, William M. Mertena and Tony Mertena.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 29, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vinton. The Rev. Carlos Garcia will officiate. Cremation to follow the funeral services under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton. Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Friday, from 5-9 p.m. with a rosary service to be held at 6 p.m. and will resume at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The family would like to express their thanks to Brookdale Assisted Living and Harbor Hospice as well as Merlene's sitters, Lynda Payne, Gloria Drouillard, Taylor Drouillard, Jen Pemberton, Liana Deville for their excellent care.
