Davis was born March 2, 1927 to Ruby Bell and H. Grady Payne of Fort Worth, Texas. He was the second son in a family of 7 children. Davis graduated from Paschal High School in Fort Worth, attended The University of Texas in Austin where he temporarily left his education to join the Navy in 1946 and later returned to graduate with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. Once graduated, Davis went on to work for the Western Company where he met his future bride, Mary Nan Ratliff whom he would marry April 3 1954 in Odessa, Texas. In 1968, Davis joined some of his UT friends in Polaris Production Corporation, of which he later became sole owner. On November 7, 1967 he became friends with Bill W. From this point on Davis dedicated his efforts to helping others with their journeys and was loved by many for his help. Davis was a member of SIPES, Society of Petroleum Engineers and also a dedicated faithful member to First Presbyterian Church of Midland. He loved to travel, see new things or be with his family whether that be on the oasis of Lake LBJ or cheering on a roping. Davis was a true Texas gentleman that blessed many of our lives.

Davis survived by daughter Nancy Stacks, son Garry Payne both of Midland, Texas.
