DR. MERRIT MALLORY, of Sugar Land, Texas, passed away January 25, 2014, at age 75. He was born in Lansing, Michigan, to parents, Charles Lee and Rosella Mallory. Merrit completed his education at Michigan State University where he earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Nuclear Physics. Merrit's work history took him from developing the first cyclotron "cold cathode" ion source (which is on display at the Smithsonian) while at Oak Ridge National Lab in Oak Ridge, TN., to developing the first superconducting cyclotron back at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI., and then to The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. as a Radiation Physics Professor for cyclotron PET imaging from which he retired in 1994. From 1995 to 2000 Merrit taught Physics for Clements High School in Fort Bend, TX. Although Merrit's main expertise was cyclotrons, his interest in space exploration, NASA, moon rocks, and Mars filled his retirement years with many opportunities for research with like- minded colleagues. He was in attendance at many conferences where he continued to study and explore his knowledge of physics. Merrit enjoyed time with his family and many friends.

He is survived by his wife Joyce; his three sons; Derek and wife Cindy, Dana and wife Charis, and Alan; two stepchildren, Geoff and wife Kathleen, and Stephanie and husband John; brothers, Sam and wife Susie, and Hugh and wife Carol; and ten grandchildren, Lori, Bryan, Jacob, Elizabeth, Colin, Sara, Michael, Grace, Stephen, and Jonathan.

Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land (Williams Trace Exit). A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at Fisher's of Men Lutheran Church, 2011 Austin Parkway, Sugar Land, TX. Interment will be held at a future date at Evergreen Cemetery, in Lansing, MI.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dr. Mallory's memory may be made to Fishers of Men Lutheran Church @ www.fishersofmen.org, or to Woodhaven Baptist Deaf Church @ www.woodhavendeaf.org.
