Mervin Paul Aikens
"Bucky," Mr. Aikens, 93, of Mint Hill, died Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital, Matthews.
His family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, at Trinity Fellowship Church, with his funeral service to follow at 12:00 P.M. at the church. Interment will follow in Charlotte Memorial Gardens.
Born July 14, 1918 in Corsica, PA, Mr. Aikens was a son of the late Charles Henry Aikens and Clara Mae Heimes Aikens. He was a decorated U.S. Army, World War II veteran, having served with the artillery in the Philippines. He was a construction superintendant for 44 years and retired from Rodgers Builders. Mr. Aikens was an avid hunter and gardener, and a former member of Garr Memorial Church.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 69 years, Jonee Aikens; three children, Ronnie Aikens and wife, Christine, of Midland, Karen Thompson and husband, Steve, of Matthews, and Vince Aikens of Indian Trail; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Fellowship Church, 13232 Idlewild Road, Matthews, NC 28105, or Presbyterian Hospice & Palliative Care, P.O. Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28233-3549.

I knew Buck as a fine Christian gentleman when he and I worked together so many years ago at Rodgers Builders. He was an outstanding superintendent and a great friend. We all will miss him greatly.
