Wendell W. Emrick.  Survived by loving wife of 66 years, Georgia W. Emrick; son, Stephen G. Emrick; daughter in law, Colleen Emrick; grandsons, Paul and Robert; granddaughter, Heather Waldron (Joe); great granddaughters, Lillian & Abigail Waldron; twin sister, Myrna Ashurst of Independence, Missouri; and nephews Gary, Mark and Rick Ashurst.  He often commented about how much he loved and appreciated his loving, caring, happy, Christian family.  He was a wonderful, loving husband, parent and grandparent.

Commander Emrick served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 until 1962 as a Naval Officer and Aviator.  After graduating first in his class at Naval aviation school, he was assigned to be command pilot of a four engine seaplane / patrol bomber with a crew of 8. He was awarded medals and citations for naval service during World War two and the Korean War. 10 years of this service was foreign  service and sea service. He began work with the Tennessee Dept of Employment Security in 1963 and was an Assistant Commissioner when he retired in 1984.  In 1887 he received the Retiree of the Year Award and in 1989 he received the Hall of Fame Award, their highest award. He served as a member of the Metropolitan Action Commission and other public service groups, and received citations for this service   He was a member of the Granny White Church of Christ, the American Legion, Post five, the Military Officers Association of America, and the International Association of Personnel in Employment Security (IAPES).His family and friends knew Rick as a humorist.  He collected jokes and had a knack for telling the most appropriate ones at just right time.  He also had a very active mind- was an expert bridge player. We all feel honored to have shared life with this wonderful man. He wrote a collection of stories about his experiences during World War II that were published in the American Legion book-Post #5 Heroes. The Hendersonville Standard newspaper published a full-page article about his exploits in WWII recently. On Tuesday July 9 friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family at Granny White Church of Christ, 3805 Granny White Pike, from eleven a.m. to one p.m.  to be followed by funeral services with Dr. Dennis Loyd officiating,  private entombment to follow.  Active Pallbearers: Paul Emrick, Robert Emrick, Joe Waldron, Bill Link, George Malo, Richard Vaughn, Clark Havens and Ed Sanders.
