Michael Teague Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 3, 2017.

Michael Andrew Teague was born to Donald and Jeanetta Teague on August 28, 1958 in Brownwood, Texas. He passed away on January 1, 2017 in Houston, Texas.

Mike grew up in Tyler, Texas, graduating from John Tyler High School where he enjoyed his time in the marching band and made treasured lifelong friends. Even as a teenager, Mike couldn't wait to start working and quickly proved his value as a reliable and hard worker while still in high school, eventually managing several restaurant franchises. He continued this work while attending Sam Houston State University where he made treasured lifelong friends. Afterwards, he branched out as a salesman and entrepreneur. Mike always had a new business idea, realizing many of them including one of the earlier video arcades in Conroe, a coozie business, appliance stores, and several online businesses. In all of these pursuits, Mike continued to make treasured lifelong friends.

Many of Mike's closest friends described him as being "like a brother" to them. He was fun and easy to be around, enjoyed a good joke, and loved telling stories, often repeating his favorite ones. Mike appreciated good music and a diversity of music styles, often listening quite loudly as he worked his unconventional and late hours. One of Mike's favorite roles was that of resident appliance expert. He was never so happy as when he was called upon by a friend or family member to share his vast knowledge and experience to help troubleshoot a problem, research and order a part, or offer guidance in purchasing. He was a generous and trusting person who frequently opened his home to friends and acquaintances needing a place to stay. Mike never met a stranger and truly enjoyed getting to know new people. Many of these people became treasured lifelong friends.

In spite of his many health challenges, Mike always maintained a positive outlook and never complained about his situation, hospital food excluded. He was passionate about creating businesses that could provide good jobs and benefits for those who worked for him and for whom he cared. However, Mike's greatest success and enduring legacy is that he always persevered, always kept a positive attitude, and always believed that better things were ahead. Mike was truly one of a kind. His family and treasured lifelong friends will miss him dearly.

Mike is survived by his parents, brother, Charles and sister-in-law, Ellie, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family wishes to thank the many doctors, friends, and family members who helped Mike through the years. A special thank you to Dr. Juan Gonzales and Dr. Bradley Pontani who not only provided excellent medical care and guidance, but became valued friends, as well.

The family is grateful for your friendship to Mike and the gift of your time in celebrating his life today. Memorial gifts may be made to The National Kidney Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Rest in peace Cousin Mike, one of the sweetest guys I have ever known. I was so moved by the pictures posted here, especially the ones with Mike and our Mema. I can still vividly remember Mema talking about Mike and what a sweet boy he was. She definitely had a soft spot in her heart for him and saw something early on that so many, myself included, would later come to see.

It was so nice to celebrate Mike's life with family and friends this weekend. Thank you for all the stories of how Mike touched your life and the lives of others that you knew. That was truly a blessing.

Mike, I will miss seeing you when I visit Houston, I'll miss your quick wit and sense of humor, and most of all, I'll miss your friendship. Thank you for showing me the real life version of turning lemons into lemonade. I will never forget that or you. Love you.

Until me meet again,
Alison

Will always remember riding around in the Cordoba. Especially the fast ride to see the Rangers in Arlington. We made it by the bottom of the first in record time.

Enjoyed our working days especially those at Bonanza, from Tyler to Broken Bow.

Too many memories to mention. You will always be remembered.

I consider it a gift that I lived in Houston the past two years, and got to spend so much time with my Cousin Mike. I always looked up to him, and he was as close to a brother as I ever had. I'm going to miss him terribly.

Best friend in the world! So glad for all the memories we shared on those Friday night excursions in high school and the past 45 years since I knew you. You were like my brother. We always greeted each other with the word gandoo even though we didn't know what it meant. So I will end this with gandoo , I loved you like my brother
